To Wallow in Pain

About pain...
To Wallow in Pain
Is like a bear's insatiable desire for honey
Honey, a fly drops in, is swallowed, engulfed, till there is no more

Avoiding pain is a tried and true statement of life
But, in the dark recesses of mind
It lurks, seduces, engulfs, till the victim is no more

Pain doesn't leave till the mind yields
"Give up or continue in this murky ocean of misery," it whispers
Over and over again till it's etched for eternity

Waves of despair wash over
Recedes then comes back
then comes back

What is that in the distance?
A beam of hope in the darkness
An indication of life, beckoning

Slowly, as night is swallowed by dawn and the approaching sun
Rays shone across the purple canvas
The path to happiness?

then comes back
