To Love Her Back

I never get the chance to.
She's a single girl
And she knows just what she's looking for
She's in her own world
Made of pixie dust and she knows just what's in store
she tries and makes a living
Working downtown in the old rundown bar
Playing piano keys
For peasants pay but she doesn't complain

Because she's simply wonderful
Purely capable
And works until her hands
Are run down to the bone
She is dedicated
Even though her heart is aching
And I try and try
But I never get the chance
To love her back

She seems protected
Never lets her guard down
Meeting on harmless occasions
Buying coffee or down town
She will never understand the reasons why
Why I hear her play every single night
She projects herself
As the woman that you expect in your dreams
Calm and professional
But never on the weekends

Because she's simply wonderful
Purely capable
And works until her hands
Are run down to the bone
She is dedicated
Even though her heart is aching
And I try and try
But I never get the chance
To love her back
