To All Buzzle Authors and Readers! Response to Lexy Lovely!!
This is another author following Lexy, everyone please read!
I’ve been off of Buzzle for a while due to internet problems. Yesterday I came across Lexy Lovely’s article entitled ‘let’s take a stand as writers and readers’, I obviously commented on it because just like Lize Raj-Pamin and any other author, I too have been criticized. I read a lot of other peoples’ work on Buzzle and I love to comment to show them some sort of appreciation but then I’ll also read other peoples’ comments to that same author and it pains me to see how hurtful readers can be.
Eg. In a story by Richard McLaren [also a Buzzle author] entitled ‘Passionate Hate’ a reader named Tom Nicholson said "I hate it, our description and range of adjectives is mediocre at best and 're a lanky boy who doesn't wash and listens to metal music" [that was quoted]
Now I ask, what does him not washing or whether or not he listens to metal music impact his writing in such a way. To me, this was just a nasty comment; a way to get a rise out of Richard.
Look at the other comments Richard received. There are many authors out there who have experienced this, I couldn’t remember all.
I’m not saying readers shouldn’t comment! By all means, do so! Authors love getting positive comments and constructive criticism but saying something mean and nasty just to hurt the writer is going a bit too far. Say that you love it. Ask for more. Say what you think might happen. Even say you didn’t like it but say what you didn’t like about it and give us suggestions to improve our writing.
Everyone knows what comments will hurt other people. And that’s what Buzzle authors are: People.
For those who know, I welcome emails and respond honestly and openly. I may not give my real name but that’s because I feel more comfortable writing under a pen name. I got an email the other day, like with any other person I responded happily until he told me "stop being the prisoner of your own demented mind" now, I’m not a morbid person or anything so I retaliated. Like any other person. Even read Lize Raj-Pamin’s author note! He replied by implying that I’m just like any other girl WITH NO BRAIN! Where the heck do people come up with these things?
It’s easy for nasty people to post such comments. They post, exit and move on while the author is left with a horrible feeling.
To all my fellow Buzzle authors, take this as a challenge, just like I took Lexy Lovely up on hers. Tell your readers about things like this. None of you should stop writing. Isn’t that how the opposition gains one up on us?
To Lexy Lovely..
Thank you for doing this, for starting the chain. You’re right, we should all take a stand, without it we’ll all just crumble. SO I COPIED AND PASTED!
IN THE WORDS OF LEXY LOVELY:
"Don't criticize when someone gives their heart and soul to the would. (when YOU won't even give your heart and soul to the WORLD. Yah, Feel me? ) Create Not Critize. Tell me what you've done before you start pointing fingers at other people. Shown me what you've done. How you helped
the world. That's what were doing here as authors, were changing the world by one word at a time. And were going if were going to get criticized for it, then so be it! But Next time you criticize an author, any author, Tell me what You've done. How you helped the world. And remember this
always,
Create NOT Critize
