College education is important for every one and we all know how important college education is. But there is one tiny problem where college education is concerned, the cost. College education, and we are talking about a good college with all the course you want, is expensive and not all parents are willing to pay the college fees for their children. So what can be done? Either you skip college or you make arrangements.
So just because you do not have the money to afford a college education doesn’t mean you don’t go to college. All you have to do is undo the irony of the situation. You have a few options at your fingertips: get an education loan, get a scholarship or get a college grant. If you are not the sort who is going to apply for a loan, then there are plenty of college grants and scholarships available for you. But if you haven’t got exemplary grades to get you a scholarship, then you are down to getting a grant isn’t it. There are thousands of grants available for you and did you know that most students are not aware of the fact that most of the time companies offer grants for tax write off and no one takes them up on it. The reason why most students are wary of applying for these grants is because they think that they need to show a financial need or that you need to have excelled in a particular area, academics or sports.
These days a college grant is available to any student who is motivated enough to fill out the application forms. In fact a student can get multiple grants or scholarships only because they took the trouble to fill out the forms and applications. They need not have excelled in sports, music, drama or academia. They should simply have the urgency to go to college and at the end of the day that is what matters to most companies or organizations that are giving the grants.
Tips on How to Get a College Grant
Here are ten tips that will help you get a college grant:
- Apply: a college grant is different from a scholarship, it does not require any eligibility, and it just requires you to prove that you need the grant. The reason financial need is a criterion for a grant is because if the organization feels you can afford the college fees then they can award the grant to a more needy student.
- Complete the application in full: always fill in the application form completely. Never leave any of the questions unanswered or blank. If you feel a particular question doesn’t apply to you, mention it there with the reason. Give all additional supporting material like transcripts, letters of recommendations and essays.
- Follow directions: do not give unnecessary information or documents. Only provide what has been asked for.
- Be Neat: it is always better to have printed application form. But if you do not have access to a printer, then you can hand write it. But make sure it is neat and legible. Make photocopies of your application forms prior to filling so that in case of mistakes you can use the other copy.
- Write an impressive essay: if you want your essay to be impressive, then make it personal and specific. Mention all your concrete details of your experience you are writing about. Make your essay come alive.
- Be careful about deadlines: make sure that all your deadlines are kept track of. Nothing is worse than a late submission.
- Application should reach: make sure that your application reaches wherever it needs to reach in good time. You do not want to miss out on a grant because your application was delayed or lost in the post.
- Make back-ups: always have back ups ready, in fact keep a complete back up file so that you are well prepared during any mishap.
- Final proof reading: proof read you entire application before you submit it.
- Take help: if you feel that you need help with any aspect of your application for, then call the funding organization and take help.
