Tips For Planting Tulip Bulbs
Here are some tips for planting tulip bulbs in your yard that will give you a blast of color next spring.
One of my favorite parts of spring is seeing tulips spring up, but did you ever wonder how you can get them to spring up in your yard? Planting tulip bulbs can be a great fall activity that will reward you with these flowers come spring. You can best plan your garden by strategically placing the bulbs where you want them to go. Also, plan to replace the bulbs every five to six years.
Planting tulips seems complicated but is easy and well worth the work. The tips and steps given here take care of the knowledge and material required to start your own tulip garden.
The first task of digging a hole for planting the tulip is more than simple and easy; the depth of the hole must be about ten inches and the soil at the bottom of the hole has to be left a little loose just to help air and water travel through, without hindrance, to in and around the bulb you have planted. You will be able to do this by putting back 2-3 in. of the soil that you dug up, and the soil have plenty of air.
You must be sure that the bulb is placed correctly in the hole. Depth placement is important if you want your tulips to come up at the same time. The bulb should be placed in the ground with the large end down and the small end up. Plant your bulbs according to the package - too deep and they won't grow, too shallow and animals will dig them up for food.
Filling your holes from planting with manure or quality compost will yield the best results. Tulip bulbs only bloom successfully when they have the things they need to grow, including one of the best ideas, nitrogen. The surface dirt must be packed down or nosy animals will dig up all your hard work, but do it carefully as you don't want to jostle the fragile bulbs. It adds a nice look if you top the whole bed with mulch, plus it will retain moisture and keep rodents out.
You may find that planting tulip bulbs is tedious work. If you want to plant a few do so if you want several, you have that luxury as well as they come up year after year after year.
