Tips for Dyeing Dark Brown Hair
Do you want to try dyeing dark brown hair blonde, light brown or black? Looking for the necessary tips for dyeing hair? Here is the article to help you at every single step.
How to Select a Hair Dye?
A hair dye would definitely change your look but only a suitable one would give you a desired and pleasant look. A particular hair dye that suits your friend with dark brown hair may not necessarily give you the same dazzling and flattery look. Choosing the right hair color is a crucial decision. So, dyeing dark brown hair needs you to consider certain factors.
Hair colors have a level system. It ranges from 2 to 10. Level system 2, denotes darkest brown or black hair color while level system 10 denotes lightest brown hair color. You can dye your dark brown hair either more darker and richer or a bit lighter or blonde. Choose the hair color with the appropriate level system. It is recommendable that you do not go beyond a difference of 2 levels between your natural hair color and the commercial one. This is so, because human hair on an average grows at a rate of 1 cm in one month and so will yours. After one month of hair dye application, others would start noticing a contrast in the color of the hair shafts and roots and you would most likely not like such comments. By not choosing a hair color more than two shades darker than your natural hair color, you would be able to prevent such a possibility to a great extent.
Go for a hair dye that suits you your skin tone as well as your eye color. For example, if your skin tone is peachy, creamy beige or creamy ivory and the eye color is green, topaz, brown or hazel, then you should go for dark golden brown, mahogany, copper OR red hair dyes. Similarly, if your complexion is dark brown or medium to dark olive and the eye color is blue, black or brown, then dye your hair in black, plum and dark brown.
There are mainly two types of hair dyes - permanent and temporary. Permanent hair dyes last for about a few months till the new hair growth comes. It starts fading after 6-12 washes. Temporary hair dyes fade or start to fade after one shampoo wash and do not last more than 15 days. Now, the decision is yours. I would suggest that if you are clear about the hair color that suits your face cut, skin tone, eye color and over all personality, then go for a permanent one. if you are not then better get yourself a temporary hair dye for now and try to find out with which hair color you look the best. However, the safest option is dyeing dark brown hair light brown.
How to Apply a Hair Dye?
Apart from the dye of your choice, hair dye application requires a comb, brush and a glass of warm water. Comb your hair unsnarling all the tangles. Keep the brush in warm water for about a half hour. This softens the brush. For an even look, divide your hair into 5-6 sections. Take one section and further divide it into 3-4 tufts. Take one tuft of hair and dye it with the help of brush. Repeat this with other tufts of the section. Complete dyeing the section in this manner. Likewise, dye the other sections of hair. In case you want chunky hair highlights, take tufts of hair where you want the color and dye them by keeping them on fresh wraps in such a way that the fresh wrap sticks to the tuft. This would keep the tufts separate from the rest of the hair. Allow the dye to dry for the recommended time period. Remove the hair dye by shampooing. Usually, dyed hair looks normal inside home but shows its presence under sunlight. Go outside and see your changed look. Did you like it? If not, go for hair dye removal with the help of a professional or wait for a couple of weeks. If yes, focus on maintaining the hair dye.
How to Care for a Dyed Hair?
A dyed hair shines under sun but the ultraviolet rays actually work towards fading the hair dye. Use a shampoo and conditioner with UV protection, specially made for dyed hair. Do not wash your hair every day or too frequently, at least not more than twice a week. It would retain the dye for a longer period of time. After a couple of weeks, a contrast comes in the root and shaft of the hair naturally due to hair growth. You can prevent it by dyeing the hair roots once in 10 days. Never bleach your dyed hair. The molecules of the bleaching agent would react with the molecules of the hair dye coating on your hair and can cause severe hair damage. Dyed hair loses natural oils and moisture more frequently than the normal hair. You need to provide your hair with the required amount of moisture and nourishment. Follow a proper hair care regime to nourish and strengthen the hair. Use only protein based hair care products, massage your hair with warm oil (coconut, olive, etc.) twice a week, and protect your hair from dust to avoid frequent shampooing. This would retain the vibrancy and vivacious look of dyeing dark brown hair.
You can give yourself a complete makeover by dyeing dark brown hair. There can be several hair coloring ideas but you have to decide wisely. You should see which hair colors and styles suit you the best and make you look more beautiful and elegant. Do a little experimentation and discover a more charming and influencing you.
