Tips for Coordinating Bedroom Furniture
Tip and ideas for coordinating your bedroom using furniture and bedding.
While there is certainly nothing wrong with an eclectic bedroom or using what you have, we wanted to provide you with some tips on how you can coordinate your bedroom furniture to make your room as beautiful and cozy as possible. For some reason, people will spend time and money on the kitchen, bathroom, living room, and family room, often leaving the master bedroom to last.
Remember, your bedroom should be the one place in the home where you can go to relax, your personal oasis. Therefore, instead of letting it sit as is, why not take time to make some changes. For starters, think about the wall color. Sometimes, the bedroom furniture will look out of place only because the wall color is all wrong. For instance, if you have contemporary furniture with mauve walls or Victorian style furniture with bright walls, you probably need to make a change.
You can also help coordinate the bedroom furniture simply by switching out old bedding. You can find beautiful options for bedding that can dramatically change the appearance of a room. Using a new comforter, sheets, pillows, and throw pillows, you could pull wood hues with wall colors together, making the entire room appear coordinated. If you have eclectic furniture, then add a matching throw across the back of a chair, making it appear as if it belonged to the bed.
Remember, coordinating bedroom furniture does not have to be complicated or expensive. Small changes will make big differences in the look and feel of your room. Consider using lighting to showcase a particular piece of furniture that otherwise appears out of place. If you have different types of wood, then create softer lighting to lessen the variances.
If you are shopping for new furniture or using existing pieces, try to keep the lines so they match. You could have different era pieces as long as they all have curving details. Again, going back to antique or Victorian style furniture, the pieces do not have to match 100% as long as they feature some of the same design or detail. With contemporary furniture, you could easily mix and match glass, pewter, wrought iron, and acrylic for a cohesive look but the pieces would all need clean, simple lines.
You should also make sure your bedroom furniture fits the room. Too often, people will cram, as many pieces of furniture possible into a room, making it feel small and crowded. Instead, you want to coordinate the bedroom furniture so it provides space while still being functional for your needs. This might mean removing some pieces or even swapping something for a different style.
Finally, if you have a mishmash of furniture and simply cannot afford to purchase new pieces, then use table runners and doilies to pull things together. You could purchase nice but inexpensive material and create matching runners for the top of dressers and end tables. This will at least give you a look that works until you are able to purchase new furnishings to match.
