Tips For Building Self Confidence With Feelings and Emotions

Tips For Building Self Confidence With Feelings and Emotions
Did you know there's a very strong link between your feelings and emotions and your self confidence levels. As your senses pick up everything that happens around you, you automatically and immediately create feelings and emotions that you link to each situation.

When you eat something that tastes absolutely divine, you immediately feel pleasure and joy and want to enjoy continuing eating it. When your nose picks up a really bad smell, you immediately express revulsion and want to get away from the smell as quickly as possible.

In everything that happens to you, your emotions and feelings immediately come into play and automatically determine how you react to each and every situation. There are several different groups of feelings and emotions, and they control us in very different ways. So let's look at the primary groups because by being able to recognise them, you can learn how to deal with and control them – instead of the other way round.

How Painful Feeling Affect Us.

Imagine for a moment that you're having a relaxing hot shower. You've been stood there for a while and really starting to unwind. Suddenly the hot water runs out, and you're left standing under icy cold water. You yell out in shock and immediately try to get away from the water. This is classed as a "painful feeling" (though it doesn't actually cause you any serious harm – more a shock than anything), and you immediately try to get away from the cause of it.

One of the strongest painful feelings is anxiety. The problem with anxiety is that it can be very debilitating, and is also pretty non-specific. By "non-specific" I mean that you can feel really anxious and low without really knowing what the exact cause of your anxiety symptoms are.

Feelings of anxiety can be extremely strong and can easily cause you to waken from a deep sleep, and to bring on a panic attack. It can demoralize you, reduce your self esteem and virtually wipe out your self confidence. It can also reduce your ability to make decisions and prevent you from taking any form of positive actions in your life.

How Pleasurable Feelings Affect Us

These are my favourite feelings – and it's probably the same for virtually every other human being on the planet. Imagine for a moment that you've just been out on a first date and really fell "head over heels" with your date. You seemed to have lots of things in common, there was never a dull or quite moment, and you got on like a house on fire. After the date, you feel on top of the world. These feelings and emotions cause us to feel pleasure, and we want to get as much of them as possible.

As human beings we have been programmed by evolution to constantly be looking for pleasurable feelings and emotions. That's why almost every commercial you see on the TV is aimed at showing us the a link between the product being advertised, and some form of pleasurable experience such as fulfilment, winning, happiness, joy, laughter, success, independence, being loved, inner peace and being in love.

I know it seems like I'm stating the obvious, but pleasurable feelings make us feel good inside and out, and when we feel that way, it naturally helps us in building self confidence levels and self esteem. You feel in control of your life and surroundings, and there's no better way to improve confidence levels than by feeling good about yourself.
