Tips and Tricks for Staying Awake
Eat and Drink
Energy drinks or plain cold water can keep you awake. The caffeine contained in coffee is believed to ward off the sleep from you. So try drinking a cup of steaming coffee and you are sure to feel fresh. Don’t eat heavy food but munching on a strong-flavored candy is best to keep you awake. Take a snack break, eat your favorite food but choose something light. Taking heavy meals can make you feel sleepy. A daily dose of a multivitamin can also help you stay awake. Vitamin C energizes you, so try drinking a glass of any citric fruit juice.
Chat
Interact with the people around you. You may start with talking about your sleep itself! Beware that it may spread your feeling of sleepiness and make them feel sleepy, too. So talk about something cheerful, something pleasant. Participate in discussions, ask questions, or take notes, thus engaging yourself into some activity that helps you stay awake. Compel yourself to interact with people around you. Conversations help you get rid of your sleep.
Go Outdoors
Go out for a walk, walk down a lane nearby and feel close to nature. The greens are sure to ward away the blues! Go outdoors and breathe in fresh air. Looking at the beautiful creations of nature such as the trees, the hills, the sky or the sunshine will definitely make you feel fresh. The body movement that accompanies a walk outdoors will energize you to get back to work.
Tickle Your Brain
Obviously do not exert your brain to exhaustion. Rather, think of something pleasant and nice that will make you feel fresh. Think of something funny or read some good jokes. Laughter is the best way to stay away from sleep and to feel energetic. Positive thoughts usher in freshness, thus helping you stay awake.
Splash Water
Splash cold water on your face and turn on the fan. Yes, breeze on cold water is sure to make you feel alert and lively. Cold water makes you feel fresh and awakened and the cool breeze gives it a breezy feel. By splashing cold water on your face and eyes, you can get rid of your dozy look.
Recreation
Engage in one of your hobbies. You may read something refreshing or listen to some peppy music. Take a short break and engage in some recreational activities. If dance is your hobby, try a jig! It helps you stay awake. If you are fond of music, turn in to some perky number or sing to yourself, your favorite song. Just do what you love doing and gloom will bid you a goodbye.
These were some of the tricks for staying awake; and believe me, they work! But remember, that in trying to stay awake, you are exerting yourself and that you need to sleep. So make sure you compensate for your much-needed sleep, later.
