Tina Fey Wins Associated Press Entertainer of the Year

In what can only be considered an obvious choice, Tina Fey took home the honor of Associated Press Entertainer of the Year.
Driven largely by her spot-on portrayal of Sarah Palin during several return appearances on Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey was the entertainer that was most remembered and most influential throughout 2008. Anyone who saw Fey's impersonation of the Alaska governor would have to agree that she created a hilarious caricature of John McCain's running mate. But in addition to her turns lampooning Palin, Fey also continued to ride a successful sit-com in 30 Rock.

Although 30 Rock is hailed by critics as one of the most creative and well-written shows on television, it has yet to develop the viewing clout of some of its predecessors and contemporaries. In addition to starring in the show, Fey is also the creator and a lead writer. Basically, she drives the show from a creative standpoint.

The show follows the inner workings of a dysfunctional NBC television studio - and the characters give the show its life. Alec Baldwin plays the perfect character for him - a neurotic network executive who is enamored with his own greatness. Fey wrote the part specifically for Baldwin after his consistently strong performances as a guest host on SNL.

Tina Fey also starred in her first major motion picture, Baby Mama, which grossed over $60 Million. She starred with long-time SNL veteran and friend, Amy Poehler. With Fey's broad range and obvious creative talents, its difficult to imagine her fading from the American consciousness anytime soon. Expect more great things from her in 2009 and beyond.
