Timesheets for Employees
Monthly timesheets for employees are essential to keep a tab on their daily performance during the office hours. This article will help you know more on how to get employees to fill out timesheets and how an ideal timesheet must be. So, read on to know more...

Importance of Timesheets for Employees
The timesheets for employees help to calculate the number of hours for which a particular employee worked in a day. Every organization has a fixed office time for its employees and all the employees are expected to follow the office timings. However, there might be cases where employees do not complete their work hours. The timesheets are basically Excel sheets in which employees have to enter their starting time and ending time of work. Once this is done, the software automatically calculates the number of hours for which the employee worked. Generally, this software also has provisions for over time done by employees in which they work for more hours than the normal working hours. Time management in the workplace is extremely essential for employees and employers for better results.
Along with the starting and ending time, employees also enter the work done by them on that particular day. If an employee does more than one task, he enters them one after the other in the space provided for the same. The time taken to complete each task has to be entered separately and the grand total of all the tasks will obviously be the total work hours. In almost all the organizations, employee timesheets are closely monitored by senior people from the human resource department. A well maintained and truly written timesheet is indeed an indicator of the dedication and sincerity of an employee towards his job. Employers can immediately know if an employee has low productivity by checking the details in his timesheet. If irregularities and indiscipline is found, the concerned employee is counseled by the human resource manager immediately. In the next paragraph, let us know the structure of a typical employee timesheet.
Structure of an Employee Timesheet
Timesheets for employees are prepared in Excel and have several rows and columns. At the extreme top, there is the name of the employee and his employee code given to him by the company. Then, just below these details, there are some instructions pertaining to how the timesheet must be filled. Generally, employees are asked to write 'LEAVE' or 'HALF DAY' if they had taken one with a different color than the color used for typing other details. Then, the first row starts with the date, followed by day, starting time, work details, ending time and total hours. Employees have to enter all the details in front of the date in that month. Once the month is over, the same format of timesheet is to be filled for the next month. Many reputed companies have fingerprint scanners which can help detect any false details mentioned by employees in the timesheet.
From the above content, we conclude that the timesheets for employees are certainly the best way to monitor their productivity at the workplace. Finally, I would like to conclude this article by saying that employee time management can be beneficial for the larger interests of the company.
