Time to save (even more) Time

Our world is filled with ways to save time. Why have a person do something that a computer can do for a whole lot less time and money? Here are some ways to help further your efforts to save time.
Time is money. This is a catchphrase of the business world. And oh how true it is. So much so that many changes have come about to be able to decrease the time spent on tasks. People have learned to read at incredible rates to be able to decrease the time spent reading. Oh what lengths people will go to in order to save even just a few minutes of time.

I once talked to a man who had been in many high positions in companies. He talked about ways he would save time and money. He told me of how he spent hours and hours just sitting at home working on using a 10 key calculator as fast as was humanly possible. It was important enough to him to save as much time as possible on every little thing that he did. And this is just one example of the time saving ideas that he had.

One of the major advancements that we have in our world today is the computer. Computers love to do monotonous tasks that we humans can’t stand to do. And they do it very fast. They have helped us save time in many aspects of life. Take for example the simple process of creating an article. Or any other document for that matter. Before, it was necessary to write (on paper, by hand) your first draft. Then you would go back, review, edit and make necessary changes. Then for your next draft, you would write the whole thing again. And then repeat the process for as many drafts as necessary.

Now, you just type on your computer, edit only the parts that need to be changed. There is no need to go back and rewrite the whole thing again. How much time can be saved by such a little act alone? Our world is filled with many such examples. And still we clamor for things to be even faster.

Take for example a record retention program. This is a type of compliance software that will track all your documents for you. In many companies it is important to know who has what document and where. It is very easy for five different versions of a document to run around your company and have many people who are editing editions that are not even the current edition. And for a person to try to track all this is almost impossible. And there may even be people who forget (or even purposefully) to tell this manager about what has been done with the document. What a nightmare!

But when you turn the task of record retention over to the computer, it becomes an easy task for it. And that coworker who forgot to report on what he did with the document, no problem. The computer automatically knows what happens. No reports, no e-mails, just results. More time for the project manager, which means more productivity.

And this is just one of many examples of what is available. From brand new compliance software to our well known word processors, these computers sure help us save a lot of time. And what lies in our future? Many more ways for us to save time, and make our lives easier. Because time is still money.
