Ticks in House

Tick infestation of a house is uncommon, but if it happens, you have to take immediate measures to get rid of them. This article deals with ticks in house and how to get rid of them...
We all know that tick infestation may result in severe consequences, as these blood sucking arachnids are vectors of diseases like Lyme disease, Q fever, Colorado tick fever, tularemia, tick-borne relapsing fever, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis and canine jaundice. These tiny parasites feed on the blood of mammals and birds, but may sometimes attack reptiles and amphibians too. They are usually found among tall grass and shrubs. As ticks lack the ability to fly, they just drop on the hosts when the latter pass through areas infected with ticks. Tick infestation is commonly found in dogs, especially those that wander outdoors for long periods. Even cats and humans can get infested with ticks. Even though ticks infestation of houses are not common, pets and other inhabitants may carry these parasites inside the house and lead to tick infestation of the interior. In case of such infestation, you have to urgently take sufficient measures to eliminate ticks from the house. This involves a multi-pronged strategy.

Removing Ticks in House

As mentioned above, pets who have the habit of wandering among grass and shrubs may carry ticks to the house. This may result in tick infestation of the house. If the conditions are favorable for them, ticks may reproduce and spread. So, it is very necessary to control the spread of these parasites inside the house. In order to get rid of house ticks, you have to adopt a strategy that includes steps for their elimination as well as preventive measures, so as to avoid re-infestation. It involves use of chemicals like spray for ticks in house and other insecticides. Even preventive measures without the use of chemicals are required in this task.

House Tick Controlling Measures

In order to eliminate ticks from the house, you have to use insecticides, especially those meant for ticks. Spray these chemicals both indoors and outdoors. As ticks are more likely to hide inside cracks and crevices, target such places. Even the baseboards, furniture, carpets, rugs, flooring beneath furniture and flooring adjacent to walls should not be spared. As ticks may crawl to some heights, you have to treat the walls and other vertical surfaces up to a height of around three to four feet. Treat the yard and nearby areas with insecticides. Make sure to use only those chemical products that are certified as safe for interior use. In case of infested bedding, either disinfect and discard them or wash them in hot water, before use. Single use of chemicals may not achieve any positive results in some cases, so apply these products at regular intervals, so as to kill both ticks and their eggs. You have to cut the tall grass and other shrubs that grow in your yard and surrounding areas. Apart from that remove ticks from your pets and check for signs of tick infestation on other inhabitants.

In short, eliminating fleas and ticks in house is not a difficult task, if you undertake it regularly and seriously. House ticks are rare occurrences, but if noticed, get rid of them at the earliest, with the help of the above said measures. However, exercise extreme caution while using chemicals. Keep children and pets away and make sure that the house is well ventilated.
