Cinnamon is a potent spice that is a natural fat burner. It has been used forever for many medicinal purposes, many of which relate to your metabolism. More recently cinnamon has been known to lower cholesterol and lower blood sugar naturally by regulating insulin. This makes it great for people with thyroid problems and need to lose weight as a result of their slow metabolism.

This is because insulin is related to fat metabolism. When blood sugar is kept low, weight loss can become easier, especially with belly fat. Belly fat is sensitive to the high insulin levels that are caused by blood sugar, and the belly fat highly correlates with high blood sugar.

It was found to do all this by the USDA research center, when they came fro a study of the effect of various foods on the blood sugar levels. One food was apple pie flavored cinnamon. Now you would thing that this would raise blood sugar but it didn't. It actually lowered it and later they found that it was the cinnamon that had caused it.

Since cinnamon taste so good, you might as well just start eating it on all your foods and drinks. You can put a couple of cinnamon sticks and throw them in with your tea. You can put powder in your coffer. It's good on toast, oatmeal or cereal, applesauce, apple pie, or baked apples.

Fresh cinnamon is best, but if you're not sure how long your old bottle of cinnamon has been sitting around, then you can figure out how fresh it is just by taking a quick whiff. Cinnamon is best kept fresh in a tightly closed container in a dark place.
