Chapter Two - Get To Know Me Better
When I awoke, my eyes opened to a strange place. My mind was blurry, I didn’t remember much about my sixteenth birthday, which happened to be yesterday.

I wasn’t in my room. Maybe I was still dreaming.

I raised my hand to rub my eyes, but there was something large and warm blocking my way. I look down and realize it’s an arm. A masculine, muscled, and tan arm; which happens to be around my waist, the hand on the side of my stomach in an intimate gesture.

I follow the arm all the way up to the elbow, up past the shoulder. My eyes growing wider and getting more awake the further up they traveled.

I finally reached the face. The handsome; vaguely familiar face.

My eyes widened as I remembered yesterday. My mother kicking me out; meeting Axel… falling asleep in his arms; the memories made me blush.

Axel was peaceful when asleep. His straight black/blue hair fell sexily and messily around his face, and his long black eyelashes rested nicely on his cheekbones. They were long - so long I was jealous of them. His lip ring was still seductive, he played with it unconsciously a little in his sleep.

I rested my hand lightly on his cheek, feeling the smoothness. I couldn’t help it; he was too good-looking for his own good.

"Morning, Axel." I whispered under my breath.

His eyes fluttered open, and then he blinked and his blue, clear eyes were smiling, and so were his lips.

"Morning, nameless." He said back. I pouted.

"That’s not much of a nickname."

"All right, I’ll call you Thunder."

I laugh, and nod, my eyes closed. "Thunder it is, then."

His fingertips brush my face, and he says, "Don’t close your eyes."

I lazily open them again, "Why?"

His light, clear blue eyes searching my wide brown ones. I realize that I might have morning breath, and my hair is probably a mess of blonde curls right now. But honestly, do I care?

I look still into Axel’s eyes, and confess to myself: yes, I do care, a little.

"Because if you close your eyes, I can’t count how many gold rings are in the brown." He tells me easily, as if it’s an everyday thing. "I’m at seven, right now."

I blush. Only people who are really looking notice the gold rings that slice through my chocolate brown irises.

His hand plays with my curly dirty blonde mess of hair on the pillow. It automatically twirls around his finger. My hair is so curly, that if I straighten it, about five minuets later it is curly again.

"Axel, my name is Rachelle." I confess, trying to keep the breath I breath low so that if it stinks, he won’t smell it.

He smiles, "Rachelle, so pretty." I wonder if he’s talking about me as a whole or just my name. I blush at that thought.

He smiles, "Can I still call you Thunder?"

I smile back, and blush a deeper shade of red, "As long as you don’t tell anyone why, I’m sort of embarrassed about it."

He nods his head, "Nah, I’ll save it to use it against you for blackmail. Or, I’ll use it to ward off other guys that want to go out with you."

My eyebrows crease, "Why would you do that?"

"Because I want you for myself."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"No way, Axel. You let me stay over, I am making you breakfast." I insist.

We’re standing in his kitchen, still dressed in our (well, Axel’s) pyjamas. Axel’s mom, Tiffany, left a note explaining that she was taking Catherine to a friends’ house, and she would be back in an hour. We didn’t know when that hour would be up, because she didn’t leave a time for when she left.

Axel had told me that he would treat me to breakfast at a restaurant, but I so wasn’t having that. If he let me raid his fridge, I was making him breakfast.

"You can cook?" He asks, an almost skeptical look on his face.

I pout at that, "Yes, I can cook. Jeez, do you trust me or not?" I pause, "Wait; don’t answer that. What’s your favorite breakfast meal?"

"Um… a BLT." He said.

I went to their fridge and started pulling out ingredients as if I lived there. I start cooking the bacon white finding the cutting board and cutting the tomato. Axel sits at a bar stool at the island, was on the other side of a countertop stove, so he could stare at me. I didn’t find that uncomfortable, though, I love cooking.

I tied up my mass of curly blonde hair, but bits of hair still fall into my face and I have to keep pushing it behind my ears.

Ever since I could read, I read recipes. And I would memorize them, and try to make them every once in a while. But whenever I did, Linda (my mother) would get mad at me for ‘wasting’ food. But she always ate it, and even though she never complemented me (she would never think of complementing me), I could tell she liked it.

I hear the door open and I know that Axel’s mom has come in. I’m scared, now; and nervous. I hadn’t even looked at her last night, and now she would find me in her kitchen?

"Something smells good!" She says, walking into the kitchen, and smiling at me.

She’s got Axel’s blue/black straight hair, but her eyes are pale green. She’s in business clothes even though it’s a weekend.

"Can I have one?" She asks, and I nod.

She sits beside Axel and stares at the kitchen. "It’s weird to see the kitchen in use."

Axel nods, "Seriously."

I look at them curiously, while slicing tomato perfectly. "What do you mean?"

The bacon starts sizzling, so I flip it. It’s almost done. Thank God, the toast pops, so then and I butter it and spread mayo on the other slice. I start dressing it.

"I don’t cook." Tiffany said guiltily.

Axel snorts, "Mom, you burn water."

My eyes widen as I pass Tiffany a sandwich first. She digs into it, and I start dressing Axel’s. "How is that possible?"

Axel laughs, "She finds a way."

I pass him the sandwich, which is when Tiffany starts moaning. (don’t think sexual people! Jeez….) "This BLT is to die for. Perfect."

Axel takes a bite, too, and his eyes close, "Mmmmm…."

I smile. I do have awesome cooking skill. It’s what I do when I’ve had a bad day.

Tiffany, once she’s finished her sandwich, watches me clean up her kitchen until it’s spotless. She smiles at me once I’m done, and looks at Axel, who is watching me.

"Axel?" She asks. He looks over at her, and she continues, "I like her."

Something passes between them, unsaid words that I’ll never hear. Was never meant to hear. Something in their eyes, something only meant for the other, and then Tiffany was up.

"I’ll be in the office." She says, and then she heads out of the kitchen. I watch Axel’s clear, deep blue eyes as they stare at me meaningfully. His eyes are so deep, so full of raw emotion: love, surprise, confusion, joy, happiness… and so many more I don’t have a name for.

Once we hear a door close, presumably the one for Tiffany’s office, Axel stands. He walks around the kitchen island to where I am, standing uncertainly in the middle of the floor. He stares into my brown eyes and I know he can see right into me, right straight into my soul, into who I am and what I’ve done: the bad, the worse, the good, and the better.

And I can see that in his eyes, too. I feel like I know him, even though I don’t. We seem to be on the same wavelength, because then Axel takes my hand and leads me out the door, "Let’s get to know each other better."

I smile and let him tow me out of the house, into the sunny day (see what I mean about the Canadian weather), and out into the park. Axel sits on a soggy bench; as if uncaring what it did to his grey sweatpants, and then spreads his arms.

"We don’t want my shorts getting dirty."

That’s when I realize I’m still in his clothes. Axel had since put on the grey sweat pants and a long shirt, but I was in his clothes. I blushed at that, and sat on his lap. He put his arms around me, and buried his head in my mess of blonde curls.

"You smell like strawberry, honey and vanilla." He tells me.

I laugh, "That’s my shampoo and body wash."

I feel him smile against my neck. "It’s nice."

He smells good, too. Lemon and peppermint, who would’ve known that that was a good combination? He smelt like bacon, too, and I bet I still did a little too.

I feel his soft lips against my neck, and it sends shivers down and up my spine, back down again and warms the spot between my legs.

But that’s the only thing he does. And I’m glad, because I want us to take it slow. I want to have… time.

We get to know each other. By the time the sun is down, I know everything about him. And he thinks he knows everything about me.

But how can a person know everything about you… when you don’t even know everything about yourself?
