This is War

You look stressed-out and disheveled,
Now that the playing grounds have been leveled,
You’re not so sure you’re winning now,
Since I learned how to win,
You’ve been wearing a frown.

I learned to fake the truth; be deceiving,
How to notice lies and quit believing,
I’m still not sure what we’re fighting for,
All I know is: This is war.

I stopped wearing our friendship bracelet,
After all this; it’s time to face it,
You’re my target, my only enemy,
No peace treaties; we’d never agree.

I’d sleep with one eye open,
If I could ever sleep at night,
I just sit there feeling broken,
Planning for our next big fight.

They warned me about how brutal you are,
But it was too late to see it coming,
It was like being hit by a speeding car,
While you sat by innocently humming.

You started this war,
With no planned grand finale,
Just wanted my blood on the floor,
Battles you won were kept tallied.

Did you notice when you started losing?
When the arguments became less amusing?
I’m not wrapped around your finger anymore,
You asked nicely to come in, but I closed the door.

I learned to fake the truth; be deceiving,
How to notice lies and quit believing,
I’m still not sure why we’re fighting for,
All I know is: This is war.
