Things to Do in Cyprus
Things to do when on holiday in the Mediterranean island, Cyprus.
White stone buildings, crystal clear waters and long golden beaches make Cyprus in Greece a favorite holiday destination. Cyprus is also known as ‘Aphrodite’s Isle’ and it’s easy to fall in love with this island as it has something for everyone from shopping and historical sites to remote mountains and a buzzing night life.
History and architecture
The beautiful Hala Sultan Tekke is a historic Muslim shrine near Larnaca. The mosque is set amongst stunning gardens right on the edge of Larnaca Salt Lake. The lake dries up in summer creating an eerie mist across the salt plains. In winter when the lake is full, it’s home to migratory flamingos.
Kourion is an ancient city in the valley of the river Kouris and is one of the most important areas in Cyprus for archeology. As well as taking in the awesome views of the valley and the sea below, enjoy some classical entertainment at a Graeco-Roman theater which still holds concerts and plays during the summer months. Also in Kourion are the House of Eustolios, containing beautiful mosaics and the ruins of the Acropolis which was a Roman forum.
Sporting activities
Skiing in Cyprus might not be the first activity people think of but between January and March Cyprus boasts some top class skiing. Mount Olympus offers excellent skiing and can be easily reached from Platres, Kakopetria and Troodos and the mountain is served by four ski lifts.
Nature lovers will have plenty to do in Cyprus starting with hiking through the many nature reserves. Take in the spectacular scenery including untouched forests and mountains as you hike along the nature trails of Machairas and Limassol.
The beaches and clear blue waters in Cyprus are ideal for water sports lovers and all around the island you can take part in windsurfing, diving and paragliding. For more relaxing water activities there are plenty of opportunities for fishing and swimming.

Shopping in the north of Cyprus includes everything from tiny eclectic souvenir shops to large bazaars and flea markets. A lot of the items on offer in the flea markets have a Turkish feel including pottery, silk and Turkish dolls. Jewellery lovers will find plenty of gold and silver accessories in unique Greek and Turkish designs. The famous Lefkara embroidery lace is sold in specialist shops and would make an ideal present for a loved one.
