Things Reptilian
A poem I wrote about lizards in English class. Enjoy!
Sun rises on the desert scorching earthen
Caverns underground and they awake.
Digging out from underneath the sand
Slowly they rise to warm and meet the dawn
Slowly they soak up the sun, slowly they be-
Come lightning streaks of red and gold, dashing
From rock to barren rock. They embrace this
New found agility, but soon it’s gone
The sun setting, returning them to statues,
Locking them, like inmates, in their cages
Return below the earth, return to the depths
Waiting there, for the sun’s next shining gold spark.
Caverns underground and they awake.
Digging out from underneath the sand
Slowly they rise to warm and meet the dawn
Slowly they soak up the sun, slowly they be-
Come lightning streaks of red and gold, dashing
From rock to barren rock. They embrace this
New found agility, but soon it’s gone
The sun setting, returning them to statues,
Locking them, like inmates, in their cages
Return below the earth, return to the depths
Waiting there, for the sun’s next shining gold spark.
