Things Change Part One (Section 2)
Enjoy
Everyone in the class gawked as him and Mr. Myall talked. "Well since I already have all of your attention, we have a new student this is Jake Ryder." I heard all this but I couldn’t help but watch Jake. "Alright Jake, we have two empty seats. One by Mimi and one bye Rowan, you may choose."
Oh crap, I stare down at my keyboard intently. He is going to go sit by Mimi over me. She is Miss Popular, Audrina and I call her Barbie because that is exactly what she looks like. I start to hear mummers as the seat beside me moves.
"Rowan." I look up wide eyed at Mr. Myall, but his beady eyes were peering down at me. "Please tell Jake what we are working on." I just nod. I feel the whole classes gaze on me as I turn to face him. We locked eyes, his were two different colors the right was green, left blue. He smiled to reveal some very bright white teeth. I blinked to regain my composure that was definitely gone.
"Um, were just writing essays." I glance back at my computer and his eyes follow. I don’t know why I felt so nerdy just because I was writing about the environment. I could have sworn I saw him smile while reading it. I am defiantly going to be able to focus.
"Rowan." I looked up dazed. "Phone call." Mr. Myall point over to the phone. I walk over to the phone and see Mimi giving me the death stare.
"Umm, Hello?"
"Hey Sweetheart." Oh it’s just my Mom.
"Mom what is wrong?"
"I’ll tell you when you get to the hospital. I have already talked to the lady at the front office, she will let you leave."
"Ok ill be there as soon as I can."I hang up the phone and walk back to my seat. I knew I should have stayed home today. I start to gather my things.
"Hey where are you going?" Audrina asks. I know Jake is listening.
"Ill call you later tonight and tell you." She nods and I make my way to the office, and head out to my car. My black Jeep Wrangler looks huge compared to the Dodge Charger. I clime in the Jeep and head to the hospital.
The ride is only a couple of minutes but it seems to stretch on for forever, I hit every stoplight. I can’t help but think the worst when it is probably just nothing, but then why would she call me at school to go there.
Finally I pull into the hospital parking lot and of course every spot by the door is already taken. Just my luck, so I am circling when I see a car pull out. I take it, park and run through the door. Right in front of the door is a nurse’s station.
"Hey miss, slow down." A short lady grabs my arm. "Is there something I can do for you?" I slow down and catch my breath.
"Uhh yeah can you tell me where my mom’s room is at?"
"Of course." The short lady waddles to the station and logs on to one of the computers. I can’t help but notice that she is balding in the back of her head. "What is your mother’s name?"
"Mary Ann Teller." She types in the name, and clicks here tongue.
"She is on the second floor." She says and smiles.
"Thank you so much." I sigh a breath of relief. The second floor is mainly a pharmacy and for one night stay patients. I walk over to the elevator. I get to the second floor and walk over to the nurse’s station where a red headed lady is talking on the telephone. She holds up one finger signaling for me to wait a minute. When she finally hangs up she looks at me and smiles.
"What can I do for you darling?" Her voice has an odd musical quality to it.
"I just need to find my mother. Her name is Mary Ann Teller." She types it on the computer and frowns.
"It says she should be here but it isn’t showing a room number." Oh No. "How odd, let me go find her doctor that put her in the system so if you could just have a seat for a moment." I nod and go take a seat in front of the station. She gets up and walks around the corner where she stops an old man with white hair and a lab coat. I wish I could here what there saying. I sit there while they talk, he frowns but then the red headed lady says something and he laughs. She starts to walk back towards me, I stand and to meet her half way.
"Well you mother is here but she has been moved to the third floor." She says this really sympathetically. This cant be right, she just had a pain in her side. I just walk away and go to the stairs and start walking up. She probably just have to have surgery to get her gallbladder removed and has to stay here for a few days, nothing serious, nothing serious at all.
Once more I walk up to the nurse’s station. The lady behind the desks smiles.
"I am here to see my mother Mary Ann Teller."
"She just settled in room 327. Right down the hall, third door to your left." I start walking down the hall, my heart is racing. I glance in a couple of rooms around me and they all seem so sick. They have tubes in there noses and things coming out of there arms, my stomach decides to flip.
