Thierry Henry 'Hands' France A Ticket To South Africa

France enter the 2010 World Cup Finals, beating the Republic of Ireland in 2-1 on aggregate.
Former Arsenal man Thierry Henry has done his otherwise untarnished reputation a bit of no-good.

The game started with France having the upper hand and ended with an under-hand trick from Henry that sealed their trip.

Having won the first leg at Croke Park 1-0, France entered Stade de France with a pretty good away goal advantage, meaning that Ireland would have to score at least one goal more than France, in France, to enter the World Cup Finals. Giovanni Trapattoni's side started off the hungrier side, spearheaded by Tottenham Hotspurs' Robbie Keane, and no sooner than the 33rd minute, they looked like they could actually edge the Gauls out. Robbie Keane finished off a superb pass from Damien Duff to give his side an unfancied lead in Paris.

France's star-studded attack were unable to pierce the resolute Irish defense within regulation time and the game went into extra time with the aggregate score at 1-1.

There is a time when the devil enters the unlikeliest of men and whispers an easier way out of a bad situation. The devil entered Eduardo Da Silva as Arsenal played Celtic, trying desperately to qualify for the Champions League. It entered David N'Gog as a battled Liverpool, desperate for a win, came up against a spirited Birmingham City. But these are lesser men than Thierry Henry. God for some and an admired nemesis for others, Thierry Henry fell from the heights of greatness to a unsporting blighter who shattered the Irish Dream.

As the clock ticked on for extra time, 13 minutes into it, Florent Malouda passed the ball in the general direction for Henry. Not falling on his legs, Henry made a last gasp attempt to seize control of the ball, which he did with his hand, twice, and then lobbed it towards Gallas, who seems to have made quite a name for himself when it comes to headers, and made no mistake.

But Thierry did. Such a response was not expected from a player known for pure, dazzling talent and great moral fiber.

Fact is, France are through to the World Cup Finals, 2010.
