Then and Now - Part 1

Hey everyone! This is a story that I had a lot of fun with! I really loved this idea, but I guess what matters is if U love the idea! So tell me what you think!!! I love your comments!! &..I hv decided I m not going to give-up writing ..
"At least when she moves away, we won't have to look at her ugly face anymore!" scoffed a 10-year-old girl named Gerdie Williams.

I was walking out of Glenn Duffy Elementary School, squeezing tightly to mothers hand. Turning my face away from the ugly and rude comments kids were throwing at me. I knew I wasn't pretty, but I wasn't butt ugly.

My mother, sensing my distress, calmly traced circles on my hand with her thumb. This was my last day at this horrible elementary school! Most kids would be sad that they had to leave their friends, but I only had one friend, and his name was Drew.

I gave a small sigh of relief as we finally walked out of the glass school doors, into the snowy parking lot.

My dad had got transferred to California by his work. I was happy to leave, and to be able to sit in the hot sun. I was also excited to move, because my mom had promised to home school me. No more dealing with snotty nosed 3rd third graders!

The car ride home was peaceful, as me and my mom were satisfied with listening to music. One thing about me and my mom, is that we looked a lot alike. Only she was prettier. We both had long waist length black hair, dark blue eyes, and rosy cheeks.

But, I thought I looked more like my daddy. I had his medium nose, small ears, curly hair, thick lashes and eyebrows, and straight, white smile.

Yes, I look like my beautiful parents, but I am a young, awkward version. My thick eyebrows were almost a full uni brow, because I wasn't 'old enough' to get them waxed. I was skin and bones, and my nickname was chicken legs, which I thought was rather rude. I had a curly mass of black hair that fell to my waist, usually tangled. My face was pale. And I was a tomboy.

The only thing that was pretty on me was my dark navy blue eyes and thick black lashes. But, what did that matter, when I looked like I did?

I sighed as we pulled up to our large house. The moving UHAUL trucks, lining our driveway in an uneven pattern. As men in white cargo jumpsuits walked out of the house carrying bottles of antiseptic cleaning liquid and some paper towels. Guess the cleaning crew had mad it on time, I thought.

My school crush, my next door neighbor, Devon was playing basketball in his front yard. He was gorgeous. His light dirty blond hair fell over his eyes in a thick layer of fringed bangs. His eyes were the color of melted caramel, and he had an impossibly thick array of chocolate lashes.

Of course, I was never noticed by him. I sighed for what seemed like the hundredth time that day, and went inside to call my best friend Drew. I hadn't told him we were moving yet, since we had just found out today.

I dialed Drew's number and heard him pick up on the third ring. "Hey Belle! Did you leave school early or something? I went to meet you at the school doors, but you weren't there...? Well, your home now though, so do you wanna come over?"

One thing I loved about Drew, was that he was what I called a 'chatterbug'. He was always talking.

"Drew! I am Moving!" I interrupted him, not wanting to hear more of the fun stuff we could do if I didn't have to go. He was silent for a couple of minutes. Only his accelerating breathing on the other end, told me the line hadn't been disconnected.

"Your moving?" he whispered in a broken voice. My eyes were starting to sting with the beginning of salty tears. Blinking rapidly to rid my eyes of the water droplets, I cleared my voice, making sure my voice sounded confident.

"Yes, I am moving, and we just found out today" "My father got transferred to an office in Malibu California, and well...were moving" I ended up muttering softly.

"But I will miss you everyday!!!" I stated, desperately trying to lightly this dark mood. It didn't seem to work.

"I am coming over!!! Don't leave yet!" was what I heard, before the line went dead. I sat listening to the annoying "please hang up and dial again" about 5 times, before hanging up the phone. I grabbed my camera, that I constantly used, and slid the strap over my neck. Drew lived only a block down the street from my house, and was there in minutes.

His brow was furrowed, and the second I opened the door, I was yanked into a tight hug. I was grateful for the loving gesture. I had needed that for a while. Drew, had always been a good friend, and I didn't want to lose him. He was about the only thing I desperately didn't want to leave behind.

Drew wasn't very much more attractive than me. He had a lot of potential, and would no doubt grow into a fine young man. His chin was very prominent, and a little to big for his face. And his teeth were lined in braces. His hair was a dark ink black, always messy, and his eyes were the color of the deepest oceans.

"Belle! Sweetie!! We have to be on our plane in 20 minutes! We have to leave now!" yelled my mother from her car. We were going to board planes, while our luggage was going to be driven to CA.

Drew looked sad, but let me wiggle out of the hug. Before I could say anything he kissed me. I had never kissed anyone before, and was surprised. He smelled good, and his lips were velvet soft.

I was actually enjoying the kiss, until his tongue licked my bottom lip. Shocked, I pulled my lips off of his, and ran to my moms car. Looking back for a small second, I saw Drew, touching his lips looking a bit dazed. I snapped a picture of him.

I would forever remember him like that. Jumping into the car, I opened my 'friendship locket', which was a locket with Drew's picture in it. We had given each other one in 1st grade. He had one, with a picture of me in it. I took out the picture, and couldn't wait to get the film developed on my camera. I was going to put this picture in my locket.
