The Year of the Ox – A Fantasy

Each New Year brings the hope of better times with it
I met an ox
The other day.
I was so surprised
I didn’t know what to say!
A really big fellow was he
He said he’d come to play.
This was his year
And to him it was dear.
The time to make us
Bold and strong
So that we could do no wrong.
To each of us
He’d be a little different
I looked at this big guy
To me he was a Texas long-horn
Because in the USA I was born.
Then the ox wished me
The very best indeed
And said I’d be put to the test
To be smart and astute
And then I’d make more money
Then he turned and rambled off
I could still see the sharp points
Of his large horns
Shooting off light
What a sight!
