The Wrong Side of the Track Ch. 24 (Final Chapter)

We finished cleaning up and went down stairs where my mom and dad sat on opposite sides of the room.

"Sweetheart you want me to go with you" my dad asked
"Please" I said as he embraced me in a warm hug we all left leaving my mom home alone. When we got there we saw grams pacing in front of the ER door. I let go of my dad’s hand and me and Janelle ran to grams and gave her a big hug luckly the blood on her was dried.

"I’m alright sweeties" grams said she was being very strong
"Have you talked to anyone yet" Janelle asked
"No I’m just waiting, I’m glad ya’ll got cleaned up it would pain me more to see ya’ll like that"
"Oh I brought you some clothes too grams"

I handed her the overalls, shirt and a towel and she went to the restroom to clean up. When she came back she was all cleaned up and sat in between me and Janelle. She looked around and stared at my dad.

"Is this your father" grams asked
"Yes ma’am"
"You look just like him"
"Thanks" I replied thinking to myself its better than looking like my racist of a mother. Grams and my dad formally introduced themselves to each other when a doctor came out. He stood in front of us with a blank look on his face his normally white uniform covered in blood. My heart dropped grams grabbed hold of me and janelle’s hands bracing herself for the worse.

"How is he" grams asked
"Well he was shot twice the police told me you probably startled the shooter with a gun shot in the air if it wasn’t for that it could have been worse.
"It could have been worse meaning there’s something better" I asked
"Yes a lot better he’s a very lucky man one shot barely missed his spine and the other in his hip they were remove and he’s stable"
"Can we see him" Janelle asked
"Yes you can I’ll take you to his room"

We followed behind the doctor until we reached a room where Marcus lay still almost dead like tubes everywhere. Tears formed in my eyes again I turned around and buried my face in my dad’s chest. After a few moments I pulled myself together and took a seat by Janelle and grams near Marcus. After a few hours I was the only one still awake. My dad and Derek slept back to back on a small couch near a window. Grams and Janelle sat in their chairs at the end of Marcus bed laying their head by his feet. I sat at the top of the bed staring at his beautiful lips remembering how they felt against mine. I started to feel tired so I got up to get some coffee when I reached the lobby I saw my mom sitting there crying. I walked up behind her and put my hand on her I could tell I startled her.
"Nom"
"honey you scared me " she said as she wiped away some tears
"What are you doing here"
"I came to see how you were doing"
"I’m fine"
"And him"
"His name is Marcus" I said defensively
"How is Marcus"
"He’s gonna be fine"
"That’s good" we sat there in silence for a while
"Why were you crying"
"Because I realized I have been hurting you"
"Mom it’s okay"
"No it’s not I’m sorry honey"
"Apology excepted" I reached over and gave my mom a hug
"Just know I’m trying okay it may take me awhile"
"I’m fine with that as long as you’re trying"
"Well then go be with him"
"Okay mom, I’ll send dad out so he can go home with you" I gave her a kiss on the cheek and grabbed a cup of coffee on the way back to the room. When I got back to the room I woke my dad and sent him out to mom. When dad moved Derek almost fell it was funny but I couldn’t laugh my heart was in to much pain. I took my place back next to Marcus and slowly drank my coffee. I stared at him for another hour or so then I took his hand in mine and fell asleep. After a few minutes of being sleep I felt something squeeze my hand lightly I slowly opened my eyes and there Marcus laid staring at me.

"Hey beautiful" he gave me a weak smile
"Oh my gosh Marcus" I screamed Marcus shushed me
"Don’t wake them" he said weakly
"But I’m sure they wanna see you too"
"In a minute I just wanna talk to you right now"
"Marcus how could you do this to me"
"Excuse me I believe I’m the one who got shot" he joked
"Its not funny do you know how much it hurt not to talk to you for 4 days then find out I might never see y-" tears escaped my eyes again I couldn’t finish
"I’m alright bae and I’m sorry I thought it best I didn’t see you til dra was out of the picture"
"Well he’s gone now for a long time"
"And I will never leave you again I love you"
"I love you too" I woke grams, Janelle and Derek and we all sat up the rest of the night as doctors poked at him they said he’s be able to go home in three days. I visited him everyday I brought him his school work and to just be with him. On his last day me and Janelle went to pick him up while grams fixed him a huge meal. When we got there was decorations everywhere Derek and Katie were there with some of Marcus other friends. Marcus was extremely happy to finally be home. The party ended early because the doctor said Marcus needs a lot of rest especially since he was trying to go back to school tomorrow. I sat on his bed while he changed in the bathroom. When he came out he only had on his pajamas pants showing his toned now scared muscular body. He walked over to me and gave me a deep, long, passionate kiss. He laid me down on his bed not breaking our kiss. He held his body away from mine using one of his arms the other behind my back. The kiss became even more intense when his arm gave out and he fell on top of me. He rolled off of me and grabbed sides in pain.
"Owe owe" he moaned in pain
"Are you okay"
"Yeah" he said in a low grunt
"Are you sure"
"Yeah, stop worrying" he gave me a little peck
"I guess that means no vigorous activities" I joke as I gave him the sexiest look I could we both laughed and laid in his bed. I fell asleep right after that and when I woke up i looked at my phone it was 9 and I was late for school. I scrambled to get up and get home so I could make it to school as fast as I could.

"What’s wrong" Marcus asked
"We have school I have to go" I said as I went to walk out the bedroom door but Marcus grabbed my hand. I turned around to look at him and he still looked sleepy.
"How bout we skip school and go to our spot instead"
"But-"
"Please-"
"Marcus-"
"Please-"
"Fine" I said willing giving into the man I loved as he pulled me back to bed and wrapped his arms around me nibbling on my ear. We fell back to sleep just like that and when I woke up Marcus was sitting on the end of the bed staring out the window.
"Why didn’t you wake me up what time is it" I asked
"Cause you looked so peaceful and its like noon" Marcus crawled over to me and gave me a kiss.
"Enough of that before you hurt yourself again" Marcus rolled his eyes and plopped next to me. I got up and stared at him and gave him a little smile. I went in his closet and grabbed one of his smaller white tees and basketball shorts and went and got in the shower. When I got out the shower and got dress Marcus was nowhere to be found in the room. A few minutes later he snuck up behind me and grabbed my waist and started swaying with me.
"You scared me" I said
"Good" he said and laughed I turned around to face him and he gave me a little kiss
"You ready to go" he asked
"Yeah" we went downstairs where grams sat watching her soaps she turned said hi and gave us a smile. We got in Marcus car and headed to the lake. When we got to the lake Marcus pulled a basket and blanket out the trunk. He laid the blanket under a tree and sat down I joined him. When I sat down Marcus gave me a small kiss.

"What was that for" I asked curiously
"Nothing"
"So this is what you were doing while I was in the shower" I said as I pulled a pop out of the basket.
"Yeah I wanted today to be special"
"Really" I questioned as we laid down on the blanket
"Yeah, Audrey you know what I saw when I was laying there shot"
"A white light" I nervously joked
"Ha-ha no I saw you" my heart sank and I started to cry
"No crying" he said as he wiped the tears from my eyes
"I’m sorry I can’t help it"
"When I saw your face I knew I had to hold on"
"Marcus-" he cut me off
"Hold on and I also realized I never wanted to lose you"
"You never will" I reassured him
"I was hoping you’d say that" he reached in the basket and pulled out a black velvet box he opened it to reveal a heart shaped ruby my birthstone "Audrey will you marry me"

My heart beat faster I couldn’t believe my eyes I stared at it in disbelief then back to Marcus.

"Yes! yes! yes!" I screamed as he slid the ring on my finger replacing his mother’s ring and putting that one on another finger. He kissed me it was intense. passionate and filled with love. When we finally pulled apart Marcus flashed me a smile and let out a laugh.

"What" I questioned
"I was just imagining you telling your mom" we both started laughing hysterically imaging how my mom would react.
"I love you" Marcus whispered in my ear
"I love you too" I said back as we laid in each others arms looking out at the water.
