The Wrong Girl: Chapter 34 - Something to Say

Hope you like it!
The final farewells were spoken and finally after one whole hours of talking Phoebe left. Meanwhile Elena stayed in her room, catching her breath just in time before she'd choke herself.

Of course Evan went on a date. What did you think he'd wait for you forever? You kissed Aaron. You went on a date with Kyle - his best friend. Nice way to show off your hypocrite side Elena. She cursed herself.

"Elena... Nina and Phoebe are gone..."Aaron whispered behind the closed-door.

"And I've got a present for you..."

"Is it golden, liquid and more than 30 years old?" Elena asked wanting to drown out the loud voices in her head.

"Bourbon... the very best cure."

Elena gathered herself together, wiping away the imaginary tears she didn't cry. Aaron stood there with a sad smile, with a bottle and two glasses in his hands. And suddenly Elena was glad she wasn't alone with Aaron. It's gonna be a two-way deal if he wants to talk, Elena thought wryly as he poured the bitter liquid into the glass.

After one and a half bottle.

"You know if you want to scream and break the windows, I can help. And you know do something as crazy as, "Talk about it," then I'm up for that as well." Aaron smiled, his eyes the perfect green that oceans never ought to be.

"What am I supposed to say? There's nothing to tell..."

"You can tell me what you're thinking... and I swear if I get bored I'll hint you with my over exaggerated yawning..."

"I'm thinking that I never apologized for kissing you that day... I'm sorry."

Aaron's expression changed for a fleeting second, but he never lost his calm.

"It's no big deal... besides girls tend to lose control around me..."

"Are you speaking from experience or just plain boasting?"

"The former one." Aaron smiled his glorious smile as he poured more drink to his empty glass.

"So, what about Nina?" Elena took the chance she got.

Even with all the craziness of her Evan charade, she still couldn't believe she didn't see Aaron and Nina getting together. Elena had slapped herself mentally when Kyle had to point it out to her. She wondered if she'd known if he hadn't been around. Nina would've told her as soon as she'd realized it herself, of that Elena was sure.

Aaron's expression changed to a painful one. Elena felt wicked, she'd found the leverage she could use to avoid the long dragging conversation. With the bourbon settling into her now empty stomach, Elena started letting her hair down. The bitter drink was slowly affecting her thoughts process.

"Nina... is Nina..." was the only explanation Aaron gave.

Before Aaron could do or add something to that, there was a knock on the door. But the knocker didn't wait for a response. It was somewhat a warning of sort instead of permission. And as another second passed, Evan stood in front of the almost drunk pair in the kitchen counter.

One... two heartbeats... just like that Elena was over the shock that he was actually there. Somehow Elena was actually expecting him. And a wave of victory flowed through her, giving her head another roller coaster ride. Bourbon was on its full effect. Evan wasn't a complete stranger as she thought he had become. Evan was here to confess. He was going to tell her that his date was awful and this story she'd believe.

"Oh and here comes my hero..." Elena gasped dramatically.

Aaron stifled a laugh as he started moving towards his room.

"No... Aaron it's okay, you can finish your drink. Elena, walk with me?" Evan asked as if Elena hadn't made any comment on his arrival.

"Do I have a choice?"

"No, not really."

"Okay then..." Elena barely stood up.

It wasn't until she actually let go of the chair, that she noticed the swirling room. But, even so she grabbed the bottle off the counter and gulped a huge sip of drink. Burning her throat, churning her stomach... letting herself go completely. It happened rarely for Elena, the desire to forget the reality and get drunk almost desperately. This time she didn't want to hold it up. Evan went on a date with the redhead chick. For a second she actually lived her nostalgic anecdote. In that fleeting moment, Evan was still the love of her life.

"Enough... Walk." Evan hissed as he pulled Elena to him, so that she could walk without kissing the ground.

His cold palms resting on her elbow, not letting her go. Elena without actually knowing, leaned on Evan's arm as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

"You've started drinking too much." Evan said without accusing. His tone was almost caring, almost heart-broken.

"It's just tonight... You know I don't like drinking."

"So, why drink?" Evan almost whined.

"Shut up Evan..." Elena said a little too harshly as she opened the door.

The rush of the cold air felt like a slap to Elena's raging hot face. But the icy air was still not enough to get her wobbly head straight. Her head was clouded and she was glad that Evan was actually worried about her. Like old times, she kept repeating herself.

"You look beautiful." Evan said moving his head away from her stare.

"I believe you have something to say to me..." Elena said pushing herself away from his lean. Her angry mask on while on the inside she felt childishly glee.

"Yeah..." The word left hung on the air.

Elena refused moving. She stood on the garden almost two feet away from her apartment, patiently waiting.

"Sarah called me..."

And those three words were all it took to burst Elena's childish glee world into pieces.
