The Wrong Girl: Chapter 32 - Date Night
Kyle + Elena + Beach.

"All the best for your date..." Aaron and Nina shrieked in joy.
Kyle in simple white shirt, some creases here and there hinting that it wasn't ironed the same day, and faded blue jeans didn't notice either, Nina's forced enthusiasm or Aaron pinching Nina for it. Elena would've surely noticed it, but the loud heartbeats thumping in her chest distracted her enough. Because Kyle's lips had curled its way up, narrowing his ocean blue eyes the second it had laid on her. She'd heard him gasp.
Kyle gave a slow nod to two people standing in the doorway, thinking they looked nice together. The scene almost reminded him of high school prom, parents waving their daughter a good night as she strolled away with her date. Kyle laughed.
"What?" Elena asked hinting the secret humor in his face.
"They really like you... right now they almost look like your parents. They make a nice couple..." Kyle laughed again glancing back once again.
Elena's head turned back, expecting to see the couple Kyle was talking about. It took Elena more than two seconds to understand he was talking about Aaron and Nina. Finally the curtains fell from her eyes...
Elena saw them with new eyes. How could she have missed it all along? She cursed herself. Aaron's arms were around Nina's waist. They looked carefree and soft, almost natural. As if his arms had found their place there. Nina didn't seem to notice, too busy scrutinizing Elena's face. She didn't seem to realize her shoulders were leaning on Aaron's chest. Her head brushing off on Aaron's cheek full of shin stubbles. But what surprised Elena more was the expression of content in their faces, even with the inspecting expression on Nina's. They looked like they had found home in each other's presence.
Elena waved lightly towards them. The expression that followed her gesture made her understand what Kyle meant. Their faces lit up, affectionate smile crawled up on their faces like they were waving their child off to mid school, like they were her parents.
"Oh boy... you're right." Elena laughed in agreement.
"C'mon let's go..." Kyle took her hands in his and hurried her to his car.
"Where are we going?" She asked as she noticed the picnic basket and blankets on the backseat.
"Hope they won't be waiting for you tonight..." He said with the hint of slyness that Elena caught in his voice for the first time.
"Why?"
"We're going to the outskirts..." was all Kyle said with a wink, so innocently cunning that Elena felt her fair cheek pinking with warmth.
It was dark when the car finally was allowed to a break. Through the comfortable silence, Elena could hear the faint whispers of ocean around. Kyle offered his hands to pull Elena out of the car. Comfortably holding hands they walked towards the deserted beach.
The waves looked like liquid diamonds from the moonlight. And that was it, there was nothing else in sight, just vast ocean in front of them.
"Where are we?" Elena asked more curious than worried.
Kyle pretended to think for a moment with his index finger and thumb below his chin, a fond smile glued to his face.
"Do you remember the first time I saw you?"
"Perk?"
Kyle nodded.
"Of course I do. You were the party pooper... " Elena giggled.
"Yeah sorry for that... but hey I was soaked. I really needed that coffee." Kyle laughed back.
"So..."
"The night before, when I was driving to get to my apartment. I think I took a wrong turn somewhere. Lost my way and ended up here. I spent the whole night walking along the beach, swimming and all. You did notice, it wasn't raining then right?" Kyle teased.
Elena hadn't noticed it. All she remembered was being in Evan's arm and her slight disappointment at being interrupted by the mysterious stranger.
The conversations kept flowing after that. It switched from rainy season to dancing moves, favorite musical band to best friends. Some rare moments of silence shared were relaxed, a much-needed break after a hearty laugh. Was it the chemistry between them or the extraordinary familiarity that made them so comfortable around each other? No one could tell. But both of them at the end of the night were sure of one only thing, they were no longer strangers.
