The Wrong Girl - Chapter 23: The Pause

What's gonna happen?
Elena catching herself before falling prey to the evil gravity, made herself sit realizing she had stood up looking at the man standing in front of her. It was like living a dream, only that if she were dreaming, she believed she wouldn’t have felt her knees giving up, or her head swirling and her hands shaking. Basically she felt weak and only support for all of her weakness was the bench behind her and she stuck on to it.

Elena couldn’t stop staring at his lovely face, slightly thinner version of it of course but he could never be anything less. She gazed onto every detail - both old and new, until her line of sight found a hindrance to the tears that started pouring out. Even the tears felt heavy, like it were the precious energy flowing out of her body in form of liquidity.

Her heads bowed down and she stared at her shaking and entangled fingers instead. She hadn’t realized just how much she had missed Evan’s presence until she was actually feeling it. One piece of puzzle that went lost in her life was now back, but what could she do now about it? She had flogged the puzzle away; she had changed the puzzle all in all just so she could’ve got on without it. And now he was back… and she absolutely had no idea what to do.

Evan slowly made his way to her side, sat beside her and then looked at her. He did nothing else, he just watched her breathing in and out like an exercise. She didn’t know she could actually feel someone’s gaze till then. She knew what he was looking at and exactly what he was seeing.

"You’re sick." Was the only thing Evan said.

And that was almost enough to kill Elena, she literally felt her heart stop beating, choke herself and herself get colder than she already was.

"Yeah I know…" Elena recovered quickly and amazingly even tried to make a joke about it.

"What are you doing outside if you know you’re sick?"

Something inside Elena snapped, it was her fear, fear of knowing something she hated or dreaded. But this was Evan, what more could he possibly do to hurt her just enough to not kill her? What could he say so devastating that’d make living more difficult than the last year?

In a soft yet confident, low but full of force Elena voiced her thoughts the next second.

"You know Evan you’re in no position of asking me questions. You’re the one who should be justifying himself…"

"Okay… you can ask me whatever you want…" Evan said calmly.

"How have you been?"

After that first question followed a long pause, Evan didn’t speak, like he was in a trance one of a kind.

I know a very short update... but I'm getting a serious writer's block and this is as best as I could get it out. I wrote this chapter like a zillion time and I swear at one point I even brought aliens to the story! I'm feeling a bit of lost so hope you put up with this hurdle! Sorry I take so long to post!
