The Wrong End of the Pool

Ever had a boy wonder for a friend who just couldn't keep it together...????
I know you went to school
And you learned the Diver’s Rule
"Dive in the deep end of the pool!"
So, I thought you might not be a fool

You graduated early--at the top of your class
They gave you a diploma that was etched on brass
You hopped in your Ferrari and you hit the gas
Sitting there beside you was this gorgeous lass

Your life was a bowl of gee whiz
You got really big in show biz
Your soda never lost its fizz
And the gorgeous Lass’ name was Liz

But with each of your successes
You got into deeper messes
And when you couldn’t stand the stresses
You turned to gross excesses

But lately you've seemed much wiser
At dinner, you skip the appetizer
You are even an early riser
And you are now almost a miser

So I know you are no fool
But, tell me again, what was that rule
That made you think you were so damn cool
That you could dive into the wrong end of the pool?
