The Woodlands Texas

The Woodlands was created in 1974 and lies over 25 miles north of Downtown Houston. The area boasts a different urban feel than the rest of the Houston metropolitan area.
The Woodlands was founded by George Mitchell in 1974 with the belief than an urban area may contain the everyday conveniences while preserving a heavily forested area. It is also the largest planned community in both the Montgomery and Harris counties. It is located over 25 miles north of the Houston Downtown area along Interstate 45 and the area continues its exponential growth as the population estimates are near 85,000 today. This is a nearly 30,000 fold increase since the 2000 census.

Not only does The Woodlands contain gorgeous homes it is home to 7 golf courses, The Woodlands Mall, and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion. Hurricane Ike severely damaged the Pavillion and all engagements and concerts were canceled. It is scheduled to open with some major remodeling in the short future. Town Center in the Woodlands, can be viewed just of the 45 freeway.

This area boasts several class A high rise office and residential towers surrounded by a man made lake(Lake Woodlands). One of the buildings is composed of an all glass exterior and looks like it may belong in a downtown area. There are building codes in place which require retail and commercial shops to adhere too. The normal flare are commercialism many restaurants normally display are absent in the area. All of the commercial centers display a uniform look. This residents believe contributes to an ideal place to call home.

In additional there are several major corporations that are headquartered in the area. The Woodlands is a census designated place meaning they are identified by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. There was an attempt for Houston to annex The Woodlands; however agreements have been made for the city to Incorporate itself. In order to do so The Woodlands put 16 million dollars into a fund Houston can use for different purposes.
