The Vision - New Story
This is my first story guys, so go easy but please comment and let me know everything you think about it!!!! Sorry for any errors, there will be a few!!
Short intro:
The Vision was annoying, because I couldn’t control it and I didn’t know what it meant. I will try to explain. It flickers in and out, only once every month, if that, and only for a few seconds. I think its like aura’s I have begun to make sense of what some of the colors mean and it comes more frequently now, every few weeks. But the center, of the actual people, is a bright red. Fire truck red I called it when I was younger. But I am nineteen now, and living alone. And now it’s just red. Once I thought I saw someone blue, in a crowd near a subway but the vision flicked out before I could even focus on who it was. That’s if I wasn’t imagining it. But my heart jumped, because I knew it meant something. I just didn’t know what.
I have other powers too, I can tell truth from lies, quite easily too. That is tricky to explain at time so I have learnt to hold my tongue. And I have this kind of weird sense, almost like a lucky charm. Almost like seeing (or rather feeling) the future. But it’s not defined enough. I get an inkling to pack an umbrella, so I do, and it rains. I get an inkling to choose the second lottery ticket down instead of the first, and I win. Small things. I don’t know how to get them but I have been in foster care for as long as I can remember and I know quite easily that if I tell people they will think I am crazy. Or they will use me. So I keep it to myself, and with no family or boyfriend and no friends since I only just moved here, that was proving easy so far. I had four months payed off the small apartment and a decent enough job waitressing at a small, cosy café right across the street. I got lucky. What can I say? The powers help.
Chapt 1
The music thrummed in my ear and gowns flowed and couples danced gracefully. I leaned against a stone pillar, trying to hide, sipping a martini in one hand, careful not to spill it on my dress. I look down again, cringing. The hours of shopping do a fast forwarded re-run through my eyes as I remember picking out one of the first dresses I saw, the one I was wearing. It had a rich purple skirt that only just flared out and was wavy not straight. The middle was a black corset that tied up with ribbon at my lower back. The sleeves were thin and my black strappy heels were killing my feet. The heels seemed pointless as the dress covered them anyway.
My eyes scan the dancing crowd and eventually Lilly swirls into sight. She had gone for her dress in all meaning of the word ‘ball gown‘. It was like a remake of the Cinderella type dress. Hers had a corset too but as it was the same feathery light blue as the massive hopped skirt gown it didn’t really look like a corset. Her blonde hair was pinned back in a bun and I could imagine her stealing the attention of the night someway too, just like Cinderella.
I sigh again, Lilly was the reason for our hours of shopping. Her first excuse to use the company credit card and she was thrilled. We both worked at the bookstore across from my apartment building, and as staff had been invited to this massive ball to open some new fairy tale book that no one had even talked about yet.
I watch the crowd rotating slightly, most of them in time to the music. I note my boss standing near the bar, seeming to be in deep conversation with a man I had never seen before. I felt tense, and uneasy, finishing off my third martini my head was slightly blurry but there was more to it than that. I decide I better go soon. I only take one step forward when the vision kicks in. That’s when my panic really starts.
Their colors stood out easily and I could see at least four of them making their way toward me. One yellow, one blue, two green. I panic, dropping the glass. It shatters across the marble floor of the huge hall but the noise was so loud not a single eye turns toward me. I focus on the nearest stranger, the blue figure, emerging through the sea of red. Less than ten meters from me.
The vision flicks out and I am lost into deep, clear eyes. They were reading mine. Part of me wonders what they saw but he advances his pace towards me, almost running now. I take in none of his features except I note that he is in fact a he, because the vision kicks back in and he is simply blue, surrounded by a light shade of purple. I set off at a sprint, toward the balcony doors. A few heads turned in my direction as I whip past. I was surprised I could run so fast drunk and wearing six inch stilettos and a full length dress. But I make it out and the freshness of the night air stings at my face as I hurry down the stone path still running.
I turn to look behind me. The blue man suddenly turned back into a dark shadow as the world returns to normal. He was just out the door. The others still inside. I round the corner of a building, only just looking ahead. Suddenly there was a hand, glowing like a light bulb in an unnatural white. It hits me straight in the forehead, open palmed. I feel my muscled tense, like I was paralyzed and a darkness sweeps over my fuzzy mind.
Liam catches the girl just as I catch up, panting.
"Bloody hell! For a chick in heels she sure can sprint!" I pant, hands on knee’s.
"Why did she even run?" He asks, lying her gently on the ground. I shake my head.
"No idea. But she turned a few heads when she did." He nods.
"Help me get her in the car." I pick up her ankles, surprised at how light she was and wrap her dress around my hand so it wouldn’t drag. Georgie and Winter come up behind us, obviously they left the ball with a little more dignity.
"Why the bloody hell did she run, Nate?" I shake my head.
"I don’t know, do I! Just help us get her in the car!" With four of us on one light girl she was in there in a matter of minutes. Gerorgie and Winter disappear again and I jump in the drivers seat. Liam rolls his eyes at my demands at always wanting to drive and obligingly slips into the passenger seat. The ignition catches easily and we roll away from the ball with no-one following us. Missions accomplished.
I awake with me head resting against something that was soft but vibrating. I open my eyes slowly and get an odd sensation. You know when you look directly at a light or the sun and then look away you can still see the shape of it burned into your eyeballs? Well I had the shape of a perfect hand stuck in front of my eyes. I blink several times to try and get it away and as I do I recognize that I am lying across the backseat of a car. My dress was just above my knees. I try to focus, there were two men in the front seat. But I was always terrible at holding my tongue.
"This isn’t exactly imagined how Cinderella would leave her ball. " I note sitting up.
"Ahh, sleeping beauty awakes." Says the driver.
"Wh- if you kissed me I am going to fucking kill you." After my eyes adjusted I re-consider this. He was pretty hot after all. He had shoulder length blonde hair and was wearing a tux. He snorts at my comment without looking back.
"Who are you?" I ask them, the situation slowly sinking in. They exchange a glance and don’t reply.
"Let me go."
"We can’t." Says the man in the passenger seat.
"Let me go you son of a bitch." I push his shoulder, not being harsh, just panicky.
"Oi!" Says the driver, pushing my shoulder aside, I slip off the seat with a small yelp as my temple collides with the door handle.
COMMENT HONESTLY!!! constructive criticism welcome :)
