The Vision- chapter 11

Guys, this is a seriously important chapter, and i hope you will all be pleased with the end of it. READ ME!!
Half an hour later Damien and I were both showered, him in fresh clothes though, and in a school car on our way to the nearest town. The baby was asleep, again.
"How are you?" I ask Damien. He looked a bit better.
"Me? I’m fine, how are you though? You had a rough night the other night."
"Junic healed me, my back is fine."
"That’s not what I meant." I don’t reply.
"Damien, have you ever heard of someone who can grow wings?" He shakes his head, keeping his eyes on the road.
"No, as far as I know it’s a new power." I shake my head.
"That’s the thing you see, I don’t think it is my power."
"Some people can have more than one power Bree, maybe yours is visions and flying." And knowing when people are lying.
"That’s not the thing, you see…" I bite my lip, wondering how to tell him.
"Go on." He says.
"You remember when I knocked you out and we never figured out why?"
"You weren’t the one who knocked me out, but I understand what you mean, go on."
"Well the night before I preyed, I preyed for protection for all of that day." There was a lengthy pause from Damien.
"I remember you telling me this in the sickbay, you think Zin was answering your preyer."
"I don’t know, Luken and I talked about it but he thought it was stupid, come to think of it so did I. But he wanted to test it so he made me prey for something in front of him."
"What did you prey for?" Damien was still talking in a normal tone.
"To fly." I say quietly, he doesn’t reply for a long time so I felt compelled to go on.
"That was the night before the ceremony thing."
"Are you saying that anything you prey for you get? Why would Zin be favouring you?"
"I don’t know, I didn’t prey to Zin exactly, I just kinda preyed."
"Well, that might make a difference…"
"What if it’s not Zin, but what if it’s someone else getting into my mind, answering my thoughts? What if whatever that is giving me these abilities is going to ask for payback in the future? What if they make me do stuff I don’t want to do?!" I say, panicky.
"Calm down, Bree!"
"I preyed again last night." I see Damien tense up.
"What did you prey for?"
"To help other people in need instead of using all these powers for myself. And guess what? I showed up at your door five minutes later, I didn’t know why until you opened it and I saw her." I say, looking down at the child in my arms.
"What did Luken say after the wings, about all of this?" Damien asks.
"We haven’t spoken about it since I preyed for the wings."
"Ah yes, if you don’t mind me asking, why are you fighting?" I bite my lip, wondering if I should tell him or not. I take a deep breath.
"Luken came up to me yesterday and told me to stop fooling around with Junic. I told him we weren‘t, he didn’t believe me, we fought." I say quickly.
"I see." Says Damien after a few moments.
"We will need to talk to people about these preyers when we get back."
"Yeah." I sigh. "But for now, let’s shop."

We got everything Damien would need and then some, the baby was still asleep and Damien looked tired too.
"You have mind powers, right?" I ask him as the sun was setting and we were driving back to school.
"I have mental abilities, yes."
"Can you teach me how to control mine?" I blurt out, Luken had mentioned it a while ago, but that was all I heard about it.
"Of course. We can start now if you like." I take a deep breath.
"Ok."
"Close your eyes, and try and find a space in your mind that you are not used to. Like walking to a dark corner and not knowing what is going to be lurking in there."
"That’s what it feels like." I mutter, my eyes closed. That’s what it felt like when I had tried to go to it before. Like a part of my mind that even I wasn’t aloud into. And I was imagining it now, a light room with a dark corner, for some reason the light couldn’t go into it so you were walking into the unknown. You could fall, you could hurt yourself.
"The first thing you should learn how to do is protect your mind. Now we don’t know how far your mental abilities reach. Some people are able to protect their minds fmr others and send their thoughts out but have never been able to go any further than that. I have been in your mind, I know you have mental ability but only you will ever know how much."
"You’ve been in my mind?" I squeak, my eyes flying open.
"Sshh, Close your eyes, relax, it’s ok. You can trust me." He says, keeping his eyes on the road. I hesitantly close my eyes again.

"That’s getting better." He says and hour later, I had been practicing blocking my mind and he had been trying to get in.
"You’re not really trying though." I accuse him, he grins.
"That’s because I know I can get through anyway. But you are getting better. Now what you have to learn is to be able to keep that up 24/7. Not just when you think about it."
"Oh, ok."
"How about if I drop into your mind at random times during the day, you will be able to sense my presence, and I will be able to tell if you are trying to block me or not." I hesitate.
"You will be able to read my thoughts?"
"I won’t lie to you. I will know what you are thinking at the time, but I promise not to go into your mind any further to tell anyone about it. It is quite an invasion of your privacy, but it is a good lesson. I will understand if you say no." I sigh, he always sounded formal, and always sounded right.
"Ok, ok. You can drop into my mind during the day." He grins again.
"Excellent, now try again." I try to build that brick wall in my mind, then the baby starts crying, my eyes fly open and the wlal totally collapses. Damien just laughs.
"You got distracted too easy."
"Hey, I’m looking after you’re baby here! Be nice!" He smiles genuinely and nods his thanks as I give the baby a bottle to suck on. Apparently that was what she wanted because she sucks on it eagerly. Huh, first guess! We were nearly at the school now.
"Will she have powers when she is older?" Damien hesitates.
"I don’t know. I pressume she will, I am quite highly graded, but he rmother has none. We can never really predict, sometimes the child of the strongest powers of our time is mere mortal and other times a child from a normal family has the strongest powers. But, most likely, she will have powers, yes."
"And there is now way to tell?" Damien shakes his head as we turn into the school.
"The best we can do is read her mind, which means the earliest we will know about it is when she will, which won’t be for many years yet." I nod, looking at the cute little girl. We had a car full of stuff for Damien and her.

The car pulls up and Damien reaches for the baby, I hand her over willingly. She doesn’t cry but looks at him with big eyes before scrunching up her face. I laugh and pull myself out of the car.
"Well, I might head off iy you’re righ tot get the shopping in by yourself. I really need a shower." Baby spew, eew! I start to turn.
"Bree, wait!" I turn back to Damien who looks from the baby to me.
"I want to name her Sarah." I choke and splutter for a few seonds.
"That’s a nice name." I manage to get out.
"After you." He finishes, looking straight in my eyes. I blush and look down, so he did know that was my middle name.
"Why would you want to do that?" I manage.
"Just sleep on it." He nods, then starts pulling the pram out of the boot. I turn slowly and walk back to my room. He was going to name his only daughter after me? Wow. Just…wow!

What I really wanted now was a nice long hot shower, a quick sandwich and then to snuggle up in my warmest pyjamas and sleep for hours and hours. I walk through the girls common room, I had to go through there to get to my room. And as I walk through I see Luken, talking to another girl sitting on one of the couches. I see him look up so Ilook away, pretending I hadn’t seen him. I see him excuse himself and follow me up the staircase.
"Bree, wait up!" I turn around, halfway up the spiral stairs and wait for him to catch up. His brown hair bounced, it had been combed today, damn.
"We need to talk." He says in a serious tone, stopping no the step below him. Just then another girl, older, walks past, giving us a curious glance before hurrying on.
"But maybe not here." He finishes, returning his gaze to me. Rolling my eyes and sighing slightly I turn and keep walking to my room. Opening the door I step aside and he strolls in, I close it behind him.
"I am calling a coucil meeting." He says, then doesn’t say anything. I stan there and stare at him for three whole minutes before he finally says something else.
"Would you like me to explain what that is?" I give him a look that says ‘obviously!’. He clears his throat and continues.
"The High Coucil is like a government or court for us. They hold meetings to fight against the Killiwalans and make rulings against people who misuse their powers."
"So why are you calling a meeting?" I say.
"We need to tell them about your preyers and your powers that you get from them." I nod.
"Damien should come, too." He lifts his eye brows.
"You told him?" I nod.
"If you don’t mind me asking, how did the shopping go?" I walk over to my set of drawers and start pulling pyjama’s out.
"Good, we got all of the stuff we needed, Damiens still trying to get used to the idea that he has a daughter."
"Has he thought of a name yet?" I turn back to Luken and my jaw drops.

He was standing at my desk, staring at my sketch book as he spoke. I glance at it and was horrified to see that it was a drawing of him on the page. It was actually a good drawing, or so I thought. But I didn’t want to him to see my drawing let alone one of him with no shirt on. Not that you could see I mean it was a head shot but…you could see that he wasn’t wearing a shirt. And his hair was messy, because that’s the way I liked it.

I walk over, wedging myself between him and the desk and slam the sketch book shut. Luken, surprised, looks up but I don’t look at him.
"Sarah." I answer his question.
"He’s naming his daughter after you?" Luken says, sidetracked and sounding surprised.
"Apparently." I say, walking back over to my draws but keeping an eye on him.
"You’re a really good drawer." He says, I whip around.
"Is that all?" I say loudly. Luken watches me with those smoldering eyes.
"Yes, I think so. The council won’t be here for a week or two." He walks to the door and then pauses.
"Oh, and Bree? I’m sorry I accused you of being with Junic." Then he leaves. I sigh, and put my hands on the drawers to support me.

He just unlocked a flood gate of memories in my mind. My first time. And my second time, and my third time, all with the same man…the most unpleasant memories of my life. I shiver, trying to gather them together and lock them away. Denial, it’s the easiest way to live. I grab my clothes and go to have a shower.

"You have to pass this test Bree!"
"It’s history, who cares?" Luken gives me a flat stare. We were in the library, and one of my teachers had apparently told Luken that we had a big test coming up and I hadn’t been here to study all of the topics in it. So here we were.
"What subjects have I missed?" Luken looks down at a piece of paper in his hands.
"Oldest magic, new age magic, starting of magical communities and important people in magics history."
"You have got to be kiding me! It will take me a month to learn all of that!"
"Well you have two days." Luken says, turning back to the list of where all of the books for. I sigh, crossing my arms over my chest and rolling my eyes. As I do a boy walks my way, and to my surprise stops at me and grins nervously.
"You’re hot, wanna fuck?" Seriously, that is exactly what he said. I stare at him. A group of boys in the corner are watching us and they burst into hysteric laughter. His friends, I presume.
"Do you smoke?"
"No." He says, looking confused.
"Do you live with your mum?"
"No." He says with certainty, still frowning. I shrug.
"Ok, then." And I start to walk off with him. And as if I had choreographed it Luken grabs my arm and pulls me back, just like I knew he would. I throw a glance at the boy (Who I seriously don’t think I had ever seen before) to tell him I was joking and he nods, fully udnerstanding and walks off.
Looknig way over my head luken pushes an index card into my hand.
"Books 800 to 950." He says, referring to my history test. I take the card and grin at him.
"Jelous much?" I say, then walk over to the book section before I could see his expression. After a few moments he follows me.

The library here was really huge, there were just rows and rows of books, like a supermarket, but closer together. I find the right section, dump my pencil case and books on the floor and sigh. Luken approaches me and start scanning the books. I give up, sitting down and leaning against the giant bookshelves and allowing him to find them. He pulls out a few books, hands me a pile of worksheets. I groan, banging my head against the books behind me.
"I take it your not exactly the study kind."
"Why do you think I dropped out of school?"
"You dropped out of school?" He asks, surprised. I nod.
"And your parents let you, or was this after you moved out?" He was annoyed, but not angry.
"Luken, I know you probably came from a nice family and everything but I…my parents weren’t around much."
"I’m sorry to hear that." Is all he says, I smile, and open my eyes to look at him. His hair was especially messy today, I had seen him run his hands through it a few times. Maybe he was stressed or something.

I grab a book.
"Right, magic beginnings, magic beginnings…" Then I giggle, Luken smiles at me.
"What?" He asks.
"Do you reall call it magic?" He looks confused.
"Yeah why?"
"I dunno, it sounds kinda fairytale-ish."
"You don’t believe in fairy tales?" He asks, grinning. My smiles fades.
"I don’t believe in happy endings." I say, turning back to the book. I could feel Luken staring at me.
"Oh, shit!" I say, grabbing my head.
"What? A vision?" Luken asks, immediately worried.
"No, Damien, I forgot to keep my wall thing up!"
"Oh, so you have started lessons with him?"
"Yes, damn it! You distracted me!" Luken just grins mischievously.

An hour and a half later we were stil sitting in the book isle thing, me deciding I couldn’t be bothered going back and forth to a table. No one had come in this isle or even walked past yet, I suppose it was late.

After two hours I start packing everything up, without Lukens permission. He just watched me silently, and I wasn’t going to answer an unasked question.
"Junic left yesterday." I drop the book I was holding, then blushing I quickly pick it up.
"Really?" He nods.
"He told me to tell you sorry that he couldn’t say goodbye, he got called away in an medical emergency. But he told me to give you this." I turn around and Luken was spinning an envelope in his fingers.
"I wanted to open it, I almost did, but I didn’t." I scrutinize him, but he wasn’t lying. He holds the envelope out to me and I stuff it inside one of my books.
"Thanks." I mutter.
"I really am sorry about what I said to you the other day, I could see that I clearly upset you."
"Don’t worry about it." I mutter. I had to forgive him because he meant it.
"I was a little surprised though, about what you said." He says, standing up.
"About me not being a virgin." I sigh, awkward.
"Yes." Luken says as I put more books away onto the shelf.
"I’m not a slut or anything I swear."
"And before?"
"That was just a joke!" He looks at me, smiling slightly, with raised eye brows. And then we did that intense eye contact thing. I look away and let out a breath.
"How do you do that?"
"Do what?"
"Look at me like that?"
"And here I was thinking I was the only one that felt it." Luken says, and when I turn back around he steps closer. I look from his chest up into his eyes, feeling small.

Then he takes another step, then another. We were chest-to-chest. Literally, my breasts were squashing against him, and we were nose-to-nose. He leans his head down, looking at me intensly again, eyes no longer smoldering but burning bright.
"Do you live with your mother?" I breathe, he doesn’t laugh, Luken never laughs at my jokes. Instead he just grows, yet somehow that made me even more excited. Then, pushing me backwards against the wall he kisses me.

It wasn’t a big, passionate kiss. Well it was passionate but it wasn’t a big kiss. He lays a hand softly on my cheek and another resting lightly on my hips. I was completely frozen, my hands by my side, but I did kiss him back. There was no tongue or anything, that’s what I mean, it wasn’t a big kiss. It was just soft, nice and a little too short for my liking.

Then he steps away, breathing heavily and I felt my eyes were as wide as dinner plates, I bring my hand to touch my lips, where his had just been. I couldn’t believe I just kissed Luen. I couldn’t believe Luken just kissed me!
"Luken, there you are! I’ve been looking for you all over, we were meant to have dinner, remember?" Kelly walks in, and up to Luken, ignoring me. My heart beat wildly, what if she had walked in not ten seconds earlier? Lucky Luken had moved away or…I don’t want to think about it.
"I was just helping Bree with her study, it’s hard coming in mid-term."
"But we were just finished." I add, picking up my books.
"Good, come on over for dinner then." Kelly says, as I leave.

I look back at the end of the row and she had her hand on his chest, her eyes closed and her body pushed up against him. She was kissing him, an dI could see his jaw moving because he was kissing her back. But his eyes were on me, but I couldn’t dissifer the expression and I had no idea what he saw on my face but then the books obscured him from view because my legs were carrying me away.
