The Unknown Metabolism Boosters

Metabolism boosters are a great way to speed up your metabolic rate, burn more calories and help you lose weight. But before you buy a pill or some fancy boosting drink, check out these natural metabolism booster methods you may not have heard of.
You can find metabolism boosters as a pill or supplement or you can look to nature to find natural boosters. Although supplements are fine and good, they are not always made with natural ingredients and they are definitely not free. But using good old Mother Nature and natural methods to get your metabolic rate revved up is free and of course natural.

There are many ways you can rev up your engine and burn more calories and fat with some simple steps and changes in your lifestyle. The most common metabolism boosting tip is to exercise. In fact this is probably the most widely used tip for not only increasing metabolism but also a great weight loss tip and health tip. The list of benefits to exercise is long and beneficial.

Some other common natural metabolism boosters include eating breakfast, never skipping meals, getting the right amount of calories, eating the right foods and of course drinking water. But I’m not here to talk about these common natural metabolism boosters as you are probably already aware of these or are already using these methods. Instead I want to discuss some of the uncommon or unknown metabolism boosters.

Be NEAT

By NEAT, I don’t mean be clean and well dressed. NEAT stands for non-exercise activity thermogenesis. What is this you ask? Well NEAT are those activities that you do day in and day out without even thinking about it. It could be cleaning the house, doing laundry, talking with your hands, tapping your foot, shopping, dancing, gardening and many other tasks. Although many of us do these tasks everyday, some people still seem to stay skinny no matter what they eat. Recent research on obesity has looked at the impact of NEAT on the ability to burn calories and the ability to maintain a healthy weight.

In these studies, people who were high NEAT active were able to maintain their weight even when given 1,000 calories more than what their maintenance calorie intake needs were. Others in the study who were low NEAT active during the 8 week study actually gained an average of 10 pounds when given 1,000 calories more than what they needed to maintain their current weight. The difference between these participants was mainly their NEAT activities. Although most of us perform normal daily activities like cleaning, etc., some are more active with the non-exercise activity thermogenesis. In fact, you probably have a "skinny" friend that never seems to sit still. This is what I call the "fidgeting factor". People who fidget, like bouncing their leg, talking wildly with their hands, tapping their fingers on a table, seem to never stand still and take a moment to relax. While others can sit back, relax and quietly read a magazine. Is one group healthier than the other? The fact is we all need to find methods to relax and relieve stress, but those who "fidget" more often will be burning more calories during the day.

Stress Free

Being 100% stress free is probably impossible, but finding ways to relieve stress is another unknown metabolism booster. You are probably wondering how being stress free, or at least reducing stress, can help you boost your metabolism. Well, in a nut shell, when a person is stressed there is a hormone called cortisol that is released. This hormone, often referred to as the stress hormone, causes and increases appetite and causes an increase in insulin production. When additional insulin is released into your system it slows down your metabolism. So by reducing or eliminating stress, you are ensuring your keep your metabolism going and continue to burn calories to maintain or lose weight.

Some ways to help you reduce stress include relaxation therapy, sitting back and reading a good book or magazine, talking to a friend, breathing exercises and of course good old fashioned exercise. Exercise is the number one recommended way to relieve stress. Unfortunately, we cannot always just get up and take a brisk walk when we are faced with a stressful situation. If that is the case, try getting up and talking to a friend for awhile or try taking some deep breaths. Breathing exercises not only help relieve stress it also aids in the fat burning process. This is because fat needs oxygen to burn, so by oxygenating your body you are not only relaxing but improving the fat burning process.

Get Proper Sleep

Getting the proper sleep is not just a metabolism booster but is a great for your health and well-being. Your body needs the proper amount of sleep to recoup from the previous days activities. During sleep your body is rejuvenating your various body functions and systems like the digestive system. By getting the right amount of sleep you are ensuring that your body is performing at efficient levels. For instance, when you allow your body to recuperate properly, you can digest foods more efficiently, your blood pressure is more stable, you are more alert and you are more energized.

With this renewed and energized state in the morning, you will be able to exercise harder and longer, burning more calories and fat. You will also be more alert and sharp in order to make the right food choices and avoid binge eating or snacking. So go ahead and get a good night sleep to keep your metabolism revved up. After all, you deserve it after a long day of activities.
