Chapter four
When we got to the café Justin parked in the front row. Then he got out and hurried to get my door. He opened the door and I got out grabbing my purse. "Thank you." I said
"You're welcome." He said. He opened the door and I walked in, I had not been to this place in ages. It was a small café, to the right was tables, to the left was a door leading to a more formal place, and ahead was the counter.
"Hello," said a woman form behind the counter "can I help you."
"Yes." Said Justin
"Okay, what would you like?"
"I will have the quesadillas, please." Justin said
"And I will have the Caesar salad."
"Okay," she said writing down the orders and handing it to a younger women who brought it to the back "you can have a seat anywhere you like.''
"Okay, thank you." Justin said walking to the far left hand corner. We sat down and he said "So tell me about your self."
"Like what?" I asked.
"Anything, like your favorite colors your favorite food, anything."
"Okay well, I absolutely hate the color blue." She said
He looked down at his shirt knowing she got the color from there. He looked up "Well we might have a problem there.'' He said.
"So are we calling this a date?" I asked curiously
"Well what would you like to call it?" he asked
"I don't care." I said
"So then it's a date." I nodded "Okay, so anything else I should know?'' he asked
"Yeah there is one slight thing that you should know before we call this a real date, because when I tell guys this they tend to call the date off." I said, not knowing if I should actually tell him, considering I kind of like him.
"And what would that be?" he asked
I hesitated then prepared my self for the worst. "I....I have a daughter." I said
He seamed to take it in "Really?" he asked but not looking for an answer "How old is she?" he asked then he started to pick things apart, " wait, so you are married." He said
"No, No, I'm not."
"Oh okay, because I would not want to go out with a married women and later get beaten up, but for some reason I would for you." He said I didn't say anything and we both just started at each other. Then the waitress came over with the food seating it in front of us. And then set down the drinks
"Enjoy." She said and walked away.
"So, how old is your daughter." He asked
"She is six." I said
"Not to sound rude but how old are you?''
"I am twenty-two." I said
"Oh okay,''
"How old are you?"
"I am twenty-three, turning twenty-four in two weeks."
"Oh,"
"So tell me about yourself, what about your family."
"My family," I said taking my time "Well my brother works well pretty much owns the auto sop in town, and well my parents I have not talked to since my senior year in high school."
"Oh," he said "I could not imagine not talking to my parents."
"Well I could tell you the same thing when I was in 9th grade." I said taking a bite of my salad, I finished chewing "When I was in eleventh grade my parents got a divorce, and from that point on they did not care what I did where I went or if I didn't come back for three days straight. And when I got pregnant in twelfth grade my mom flipped, she told me that if I wanted to go have fun and party every night then I deserved this. She told me that if I even expected her to let me stay at home I was out of my mind." I looked up " so I had to graduate high school, I took that test to graduate, and then my brother helped me buy an apartment. And now I am perfectly fine living on my own." I said
"So your parents have never seen your daughter?''
"No, they have once when she was two and my brother was watching her but not since then.''
"That's so sad." He said, I looked away, blinking away the tears.
"So," I said changing the subject, "what about your family?"
"My family well, my family still all talks to each other."
"Well that's good." I said
"Okay well I have three sisters two older and one younger." He said
"How old are they?"
"Julie-Anna is twenty-seven, Karson is Twenty-five and Allison is twenty."
"Do they have any children?" I asked
"Yeah, Julie-Anna has two kids Jesse who is six and Amber who is three. Karson doesn't have any kids yet, she actually just got married last month." He said "And Allison has Adrianna a one year old."
"Is Allison married?"
"No, she is engaged, but not married; my mom was not pleased when she had a baby especially because she had to quit college."
"I know exactly how it feels." I said
"Yeah she was mad for a while she didn't want to talk to mom for a while and would only really talk to Julie-Anna, but she got over that stage before the baby was born."
"I wish sometimes that my parents would do that, that one day they will call and say I was stupid and wrong and I would like to apologize, but it has never happened and some days I am so happy to not have my mom telling me how to raise my child."
"I hear ya, my sisters must go crazy when my mom tells her how to be a parent. But I guess all parents do it."
"So what do you do for a living?" I asked
"I am a carpenter, I do roofs electrical, kitchens stuff like that, me and Karson actually kind of work together she is an internal and external designer."
"Oh that sounds like fun." I said
"Sometimes I guess I mean its work no one wants to do it but hey that's how I keep my home, right."
We ate in silence for a while, and when we were almost done he asked "What are you doing Saturday?"
"Nothing really, Why?"
"I was wondering if you would like to go to the new bar/pub in town."
"I would love to go but I would have to find someone that can watch Grace."
"Okay, well if you can's it's not a problem."
"I will ask my brother later and then I will call you."
"Okay." He said taking a bite of his quesadillas.
When we finished the waitress came over and gave us the check, I pulled out my wallet but he beat me to it, "I'll pay." He said
"No, I don't want to make you do that."
"It's fine."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive." He said
When we were finished paying we headed back out to the car. He once again held the door open for me and I got in.
