The Truth About Oily Skin

Is your skin oily? Caring for your skin requires that you strike a balance. You need to keep your skin clear, at the same time, in the long run, you want to keep the benefits of the skin you were born with.
If your skin is oily, it would get shiny by mid day. Your skin's oil glands are very active which is both good and bad.

Good in that unless you deliberately dry your skin with products that contain alcohol, you need not worry about skin getting too dry as the oil forms a protective layer that keeps the moisture within your skin from leaving too rapidly.

Good too in that your skin is probably thicker than other skin types, meaning, fine lines and wrinkles won't show so quickly as you age. You would look younger than your peers in your old age. That is if you can wait that long.

Bad in that oily skin is more prone to pimples and blackheads.

When a pore in the skin gets filled clogged up with oil, dead skin cells and dirt, bacteria breeds happily in it, leading to infection, leading eventually to a pimple. The infection can spread, causing pimples to spread over your face, leading to a major acne breakout.

Prevention is better than cure. Proper cleansing is necessary if you want to keep your oily skin clear. I have oily skin and suffered from acne. That cleared when I followed my doctors advice to wash my face morning, noon and at bedtime everyday, using an antibacterial face wash she dispensed. Actually, any antibacterial face wash would do. If you don't have pimples, then any good cleanser meant for oily skin would do the trick.

The misconception is that you have to use harsh products to tame your skin. That can lead to dehydration. Worse still, you could get irritated, inflamed skin if your skin is even remotely sensitive

Dehydrated skin is dry skin that is dry on the surface but oily underneath. It is thirsty skin that lacks water and you would probably see those fine dry lines on the surface. Oily skin does need moisturizer that is totally water based.

If you must use makeup, use a proper foundation for oily skin. Nothing pore clogging should be put on your face. Unless you welcome pimples that is.
