Top Ten Reasons to Homeschool your child

Homeschooling has become increasingly popular these days. Not quite sure if you should homeschool your child or not? Here are 10 reasons why -
  1. You will become the primary influence on your child as he/she grows up, and you can bring them up as you see fit.
  2. You will bond with your child as you are spending hours of quality time with them every day. An average child spends around 11,000 hours in a classroom. This is a large proportion of their early years - why miss that much time with them?
  3. Your child will be able to learn at their own pace. Traditional schools with packed classrooms find it hard to educate a huge array of abilities, as they have a rigid teaching structure. By homeschooling you allow your child to go back and re-learn things they are unsure of, and speed through things they pick up quickly.
  4. You will be able to teach your religious faith and pray during the day. Some schools can make some pupils of certain religious beliefs feel that they are a beleaguered minority, struggling with the perils of alcohol, drugs and other influences.
  5. You will gain the ability to have a say in who your child is friends with. Homeschool families can meet other like-minded families, who have children who can become friends with your child. This can help the child to grow and mature through their developmental years. By hanging out with similar children, your child will gain similar values – and won’t feel pressured to take drugs, alcohol etc.
  6. As you are raising your child to your values, they will become well behaved and pleasant-mannered. When children spend several hours a day together, every day, for several years - with no adults around, their behavior can become slightly erratic and out of control. Don’t allow this to happen to your son or daughter.
  7. You will not have to worry about school bullies. Unfortunately bullying is prominent in many schools. The children being bullied can feel isolated, and will not always reveal what is happening to their parents or teachers. Do not run the risk of someone bullying your child.
  8. The child will have more freedom to express themselves and show creativity. Some schools do not focus on arts as much as they could. By homeschooling you can give your child freedom to pursue their natural artistic talents, rather than have them boxed up with no avenue for expressing themselves.
  9. You will be taking part in an adventure with your child. It is an experience that you will be sharing together and will stay with you for the rest of your lives.
  10. You will also be learning, as well as your son or daughter. Learning can be fun, and you may find new interest for yourself, and possibly even continue this interest after your child has grown up. Subjects such as History and Geography can be much more fun when taught at home.
Home schooling your child can be challenging, but when you realize all of the potential benefits you will find that it is an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
