Today Mary came downstairs and told me we have to leave, for good. I asked her where we would live, since she said she doesn't have any house except for John's but I don't like John.

"Honey, I'm sorry I didn't tell you this, but I just couldn't." And then she started to cry, and sat down slowly on the couch.

"What is it, Mary?" I asked. I was starting to feel bad by the way that her tears were streaming down her face in little rivers, and they kept going faster and faster.

"John is your dad... The man who lives upstairs that you think is your dad has no idea you're here. Your mom, Mrs. Smith, the woman upstairs had a brief affair with John right after I moved in. You are the best thing that has ever happened to this house, and half the people in it don't even know you exist."

"So what are we supposed to do now?" I asked. If I didn't have any dad except for John, then why do we not live with John. This makes no sense.

"Right after you were born, Mrs. Smith wanted to put you up for adoption, but I wouldn't let her. You were just too precious; and I couldn't imagine you living anywhere but with me." Mary finished, the tears still falling. "So come on... We need to go to your real dad, John's house now. He'll keep you safe. I love you."

That was the last thing Mary said to me. I live with John now, and I'm 9 years old. I go to school at the same school as Sabrina now, but we don't talk. John said that may be someday we'll go see Mary again, but I think probably not, because I was a pretty big deal on the news when they found out that Justinia Smith, who is my real mom, had a daughter (me) with her maid's brother. And Gerald Smith, who I thought was my dad but is really just a stuck up Hollywood actor that wanted nothing to do with his cheating wife. Make that Ex-wife. I live with Justine and John now, and I got to be the flower girl at their wedding. Mary wasn't there, and I'm not sure why. Maybe someday I'll see her again so I can tell her how much I love her for not letting Mom put me up for adoption, because I love them so much. They got me a cat for Christmas, and I named it Mary because it has a bow tie like Mary used to on her uniform.
Good ending?
Yes
No.
