The Tear
Again, something I wrote in In School Suspension.
A tear slips down her cheek for the first time in 4 years. Under her dark, long hair, beneath her heavy eye make up, and behind her glazed eyes lies a scared child that hasn't felt anything for 4 years.
She would walk into school every morning with her earphones in, sweatshirt on, and eyes locked on the floor. She never talked.
Up until 4 years ago she was never caught without a smile and laughed until the last star appeared. But that was 4 years ago.
Now she walks through the halls quietly, never speaking. If she must though, it's a soft whisper barely escaping her teeth.
Four years ago today, you ruined her life. Both of you. You walked into her bedroom, sat her on her bed, and completely destroyed her life.
She was so innocent and small. She had no idea why daddy packed his things and left. She had no idea why mommy didn't come home the following nights until long after her bed time.
Today a tear slipped down her cheek. For the first time in 4 years.
