The Tangled Web We Weave

This is my first story that I've posted on here. Feedback is GREATLY appreciated! This is just a short little prologue to sort of set things up and get the story started.
Levi:

Levi gritted his teeth and waited for the blow. He knew what was coming, yet every single time his father hit him, he still flinched. Sometimes, he fought back. But tonight...he was so tired. He braced himself and tried not to curse as his dad hit the back of his head, taunting him.

He heard his mother slam her bedroom door. Typical. Every time his dad got out of control, instead of trying to help, she retreated. She would apologize to Levi later; apologize for not doing anything and apologize for his father's behavior. But did it really matter? Did it really change anything?

"Man up, Son!" His father yelled, taking another swig of his beer and belching loudly. "You're not even gonna try to defend yourself? I didn't raise you to be a pansy."

His dad shoved him, knocking Levi out of his chair. His nose hit the table with a sick thud, and Levi felt the blood begin to flow out. His temper flared. "You didn't raise me at all!" He yelled. With one quick motion, he turned around and punched his father straight in the face. He watched as his dad's beer slipped out of his hand, and knew he needed to get away. Fast.

He shoved past his dad and raced out of the house, heart beating out of control and thoughts racing. Flustered, he pulled out his cell phone with shaky hands. There was one thing, one person that could make this all better. He knew what he needed. He needed her.
