The Successful Shopper: iPhone verse BlackBerry

It’s the newest and hottest debate in the world of tech, which phone is better? Ever since the iPhone came out we have heard about every new phone being the iPhone killer, but nothing has been able to stand up to the prowess of the iPhone. Well now we may just have ourselves a competition with the recent release of the Blackberry Storm.

Blackberry has pretty much had a strangle hold on PDA style phones for the past few years, and until the iPhone came out had no real competition. Then came the iPhone and ever since Blackberry has been trying to get something to the market to compete with the features of the iPhone. The Blackberry storm still stays true to the Blackberry platform and business background, but has spiced it up a bit with the touch screen capability and ability to play music.

Screen

Each phone has a form of touch screen that enables the user to simply place his or her finger to choose an item the difference here between the two phones is the push to touch technology that the Storm has. Instead of just touching the screen and possibly erroneously choosing the wrong item, the user has the ability to push down and "confirm" his or her choice. This is one area I believe the Storm outperforms the iPhone, and does a better job with its touch screen.

Applications:

This is where the iPhone dominates the market. With the open source interface that Apple allows for its iPhone and the ability for people to download those applications, they have created a huge success. There are rumors that Blackberry is trying to create an application store much like the iPhone has, but nothing has been developed yet. This round goes to Apple and its iPhone for shear creativity.

Call Quality:

Trying to compare call quality for each phone maybe liking splitting hairs, neither phone wins nor loses here. One thing we can compare is the carrier for each phone and the experiences people have had with either ATT or Verizon. Personally I have been a customer of both services and have found that Verizon is much better. Not nearly as many of my calls are "dropped" and the quality of the calls are crisp and clear. This round is up in the air, but I pick the Storm.

Email:

No need to go into this comparison too much. Hands down the Storm wins with its email technology and the ability to be instantly notified of messages.

Internet:

Both phones have incredible internet surfing ability, and even more so have the ability to run on the ultra fast 3G network. However, I must say that the iPhone is much easier to search through the internet with. The ability to zoom is also easier with the iPhone while the Storm you have to work with it a little bit to get the zoom to work.

There doesn’t seem to be a clear winner between the two phones, and you are always going to have the faithful on each side who like one over the other. The debate goes for another day, and maybe then we will have another phone to compare.
