The Soul of a Genius

Just came out of the blue while I was thinking about my best friends and their "complicated" love stories... :DDD
It was summer. My eyes opened to a bright day which made me blink several times. I could already hear the banging of utensils down at the kitchen. I stood up, fixed my bed, opened the curtains, and went to the bathroom to wash up.

As I was brushing my teeth, I made a run through of my day today in my head. First, I’d be going to Kin's place with Jead to plan out our Summer Outing. Then, I’d be going to Jacob and Jead's basketball game this afternoon. but before that, I’m gonna do some errands for my mom. She asked me last night if Kean, my cousin and I could pick up the cake at the bakeshop. She also asked me to go to the grocery to buy the last minute things she needs for my aunt's homecoming tonight.

Today’s gonna be a handful. I thought as i finished washing up. I need to eat a lot this breakfast..

I went down stairs and found my mom, Isabelle, with my siblings, Jared and Haylie and.... Jacob... a special friend. I see dad already left.

"Smells good. What’s on the menu this morning, mom?" I asked sniffing.

"Blueberry muffins, wiener wursts, eggs bacon, rice and orange juice." mom replied as she pointed to the stuffs on the table.

"And what are you doing here?" I asked Jacob.

"Be polite, Miel." mom said.

I whined. ugh! why does she have to call me Miel in front of Jacob??? "Mom! I’m Ish! I-S-H! Ish!"

"You’re Ishmiel. Now sit down and eat your breakfast."

Jacob chuckled.

"What’s so funny?" I catechized furiously.

He stopped giggling, cleared his throat and continued eating. "did we have a bad night or we just woke up at the wrong side of the bed?"

"Neither. And there's no 'we' in here." I replied.

Jared and Haylie giggled once but then stopped when I shot a look.

Jacob smiled at me. His lips puckered up into an uneven smile that was so stellar.

"I didn't want you to wait that's why I came here early. And besides, Aunt Isabelle said I’m welcome here anytime." he said.

"Guess that's true." I muttered.

"So, what's on the agenda today?" Jake asked.

"I’ll be going to Kin's. I’ll just call Jead and tell him not to stop by here anymore since you're already here. I’m gonna take my lunch there so don't wait for me anymore. Mom asked me to go to the grocery and the bakeshop with Kean, then, I’ll be watching your game." I retorted as I chopped my eggs.

"Actually honey, its okay. Jared, Haylie and Kean already volunteered to do those things." mom announced.

I was gulping down my orange juice so I just nodded.

Mom's menu, as always, was superb! She’s a very talented cook though she graduated as a dentist while my dad graduated as a business man.

From the name itself, my dad's always busy. He rarely attends our family gatherings and he is merely at home. He leaves very early in the morning for work, and comes home late at night. When he is home, he locks himself up in the home office doing his works. But he's really a great dad. He just can't find the time to spend it with us though he wants to.

After breakfast, I took a bath while Jake waited for me downstairs watching a tennis game with Jared.

When I was done, I grabbed my favorite khaki pants, and black hoodie that has pink, blue, yellow, and white stripes on it and slipped them on. I also grabbed my phone and dialed Jead's number.

"Hey Jead!" i greeted.

"Hey Ish! Zup?"

"You gonna pick me up right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Well, don't bother anymore cause Jake's gonna walk me there."

"Oh.... okay then, see yah! bye!"

"Bye!"

I shut my phone, and dashed downstairs grabbing everything I need on the way. I put on my pink and black high-tops and went to where Jake is.

He looked at me and horned. "Ready to go?"

"Yeap! let's go!" I answered cheerfully.

Jake stood up and thanked mom for the breakfast.

"No problem Jake. come back anytime soon. oh wait! you're invited tonight!" mom chuckled as she remembered. "see you tonight then."

"Yeah, guess so. thanks again, Aunt Isabelle."

"You're welcome. take care you two."

"'Bye mom. I'll be home by 5 then I'll help you set up." I said as I kissed her cheek.

Jake and I headed out the door and we waved good-bye to them.

After several minutes of silence, Jacob placed his arms around me and asked why I'm not a blabber-mouth today.

I shook it of but intertwined our hands before I answered him.

"Nothing. I just can't believe that aunt Jade's coming back." I replied.

"Does she know about us?" Jake catechized.

"Aunt Jade knows everything." I retorted, bowing my head as I became thoughtful.

"Ahh..." Jacob dropped the subject and let me be quiet....
