The Seer's New Life - Part 3

Alexandra is meeting her "mother" at the airport and she's not the only one having issues.
MELINDA
I watched her approach her. I tried to search her face and see what she was feeling but she had on sunglasses. As she drew closer, my shoulders slumped. So, it begins. I thought. I glanced at the white skin that Christina, or Kristyna as she preferred to be called now, had taken to obsessing over. When she approached us, she lifted a brow at me. I tried to sense what she was feeling but, to my surprise I couldn't sense her emotions at all. It wasn't even the size of the crowd that interfered. I could sense that Chrissy was bored; Vic was nervous and anxious, Bryce didn't care, and Jacob as his usual happy self. However, I couldn't sense Alexandra's. I frowned.

"What?" she asked, challenge in her voice. I forgot about the emotion sensing and sighed.

"It's just that Christina has taken to rebelling and that's how she prefers her skin color to be."

"This is my natural skin color," she said coolly. "It's actually paler in winter but my skin is white."

"Oh," I said, surprised and relieved. Then, she laughed. I could tell it wasn't one of humor.

"If you reacted that way about my skin, I don't know what you'll say about my hair and eyes." For the first time, I glanced at her hair. I gasped. Every strand was a pure white. Even from this distance, I could tell that it was her natural hair color. I'd never seen anybody with such white hair who wasn't an albino. I knew she wasn't for when she was in the hospital, it had been a golden wheat color. Then, she took off her sunglasses. This time, Victor gasped along with me. Her eyes were the purest silver. Then, she turned her head and I realized that they were so light and near colorless that they only seemed silver in direct light. Then, however, I noticed her pupils. Instead of the normal black, they were the color of old gold. I watched as she turned her head back to us.

"Don't worry," she said. "You'll get used to my appearance." I stood staring at her when I heard Jake give a happy laugh. I looked down and gasped when I saw him standing dangerously close to a white wolf.

"Jake," I whispered, terrified. The wolf was not one I knew.

"It's all right," I heard Alexandra say. "Snow won't hurt him."

"Snow?" I asked, glancing up sharply.

"Yeah, Snow" she said. "She's my wolf. I rescued her in Mexico eight years ago. She's really gentle with little kids." Then, I watched with my heart in my throat as she proceeded to put Jake on the wolf's back. Once, on top, Jake started giggling and waving his hands. I let out a sigh of relief.

"What?" I heard, Alexandra ask. I glanced at her; her eyebrows were pulled into a frown. "You don't think I'd actually let her hurt a little kid, did you?"

"No," I replied, quietly. I was afraid to tell her that I had been afraid to trust her. Almost as if she sensed my thoughts, she snorted angrily.

"Could have fooled me," she said. We sat there in an uncomfortable silence, staring at each other until Victor cleared his throat. We both turned toward him.

ALEXANDRA
"I'm Victor but you can call me Vic," the tall black haired man with blue eyes said, extending his hand. "Melinda and the kids and I just wanted you to know we're glad you're here." I smirked. I had high doubts about this. "Why don't we get your bags from luggage claim and be on our way." he said. "Bryce!" he yelled to someone over his shoulder. A tall boy, who was the spitting image of his father, walked over. I could only assume he was my stepbrother. "This is my son Bryce," Victor said. Bryce just nodded at me and I nodded back. He slowly ran his eyes over me from head to toe before glancing away.

"Can we leave now, Dad?" he asked.

"No," Victor answered. "Go get Alexandra's bags." He told him.
"Don't forget Snow's bag and my motorcycle," I said just before he walked away. He turned and looked back at me. "Her bag has a white wolf in a silver moon on it and my motorcycle's the silver one with the black flames." I watched as his gaze filled with admiration before he walked over to luggage claim.

"You have a motorcycle?" Victor asked, sounding surprised. I glanced back at him.

"Yes, my dad got it for me when I got my driver's license. We travel a lot so, it's not like a car would have been most use. I mean, he has one but only because his job requires it."

"Oh," Victor said, still looking surprised.

"By the way, all my friends call me Lexi" I said, with a pointed glance at Melinda, letting her know she wasn't a friend. I watched her swallow. There was a tense silence until Bryce came back, whistling as he brought my bike.

BRYCE
I admired the bike as I rolled it toward Dad and my new stepsister, along with the rest of her luggage. I hadn't really wanted another sister, step- or not. It would be just one more girl to ruin my life except, the girl hadn't acted like a normal girl. In fact, she had a cool "don't touch me" air about her. Her white skin and hair had suited her, unlike Chrissy's. Also unlike Chrissy's, I could tell that they were her real skin and hair color. Although, I had to admit, the name Alexandra hadn't suited the girl I'd seen. I also had to admit that the bike was really awesome. It was even better than the model I had been begging my dad to let him get since I'd turned 15.

"Here's your bike, Alexandra" I said, rolling it up to her. I was pretty sure the admiration showed in my voice. She took off her sunglasses and looked the bike over before glancing at me. I stared in shock at her eyes. They were colorless and her pupils were a dull gold. They were the most beautiful eyes I'd ever seen on a girl.

"Thanks," she said, smiling. I felt my knees go weak like a schoolgirl. Me! A boy! A high school senior! "You can call me Lexi." I nodded, unable to talk, still staring at her.

"Put her stuff in the back," I heard Dad say. I nodded and turned toward the bed of the truck. When I was out of ear range of everyone else, I groaned. What was I going to do? I had a crush on my stepsister!

KRISTYNA
I glanced out the window, wondering what was taking so long. I had more important things to do, like not be here. I had even wanted to come but, they said I had to make my new stepsister feel welcome. I didn't want a new stepsister. She'd probably be some goody-two shoes who just make Dad and Linda harp at me some more. I saw them all talking. The admiration was clear on my brother's face. Then, I saw what he was leaning against. So, I thought. It seems our new stepsister has something my brother wants. Then, I saw my brother's face as he walked toward the bed of truck. I snorted. It was clear as day that my brother had a crush on our new stepsister.

I glanced back at my stepsister and felt a thrill of excitement go through me. She had white skin and white hair. Even from this distance, I could tell that both were real. As she turned, I caught a glimpse of her eyes. Now, I was really excited. They were clear with gold pupils. My new stepsister could almost pass for one of the cool kids. Maybe this was my chance to finally get into the popular kids. It would finally get me known as Kristyna and not plain Chrissie Wright. I mentally tried to recall my stepsister's name and let out a sigh of frustration when I couldn't. Then, I brightened. I would just listen to their conversation when they got into the car. Kristyna Wryte would finally be known as somebody.
