The Runaway

The title pretty much describes it...
Running so quickly
Wanting to catch my breath
Running for survival
Running from death

Running for a trophy
Running for a prize
But you wouldn’t see that
Unless you looked deep into my eyes

Running to the corner
One hundred meters to go
Running from the people
That want to take me home

Running for a second chance
It’s just around that bend
Running for freedom at last
Running to defend

Been running my whole life, I have
Running everywhere
Why won’t they just let me be,
If they don’t even care?

Running, just keep running
Please, you’re almost there
My stupid eyes why couldn’t they see
That my jeans they had a tear

I slipped on dirt
And tore my shirt
But by then it was too late
The people they now had me
I’ll be home by ten
Maybe nine at this rate

They shoved me up
And held me tight
Waiting and thinking
That I’d put up a fight

I’m not that stupid
I’ve been through this before
But I’ll be gone the next instant
You searchers close the door
