The Romper - Back with a Glam Bam

This was the second article entry for Vogue magazine's contest back in 2009. I didn't win but the content was a lot of fun to research on. Maybe you'll add one to your wardrobe.
The Romper has made its way back into the fashion scene since its inception in early 1910 with its popularity peaking in the 1950s. Deborah Sweeney and Juliette Hogan have designed such pieces in runway shows showcasing the romper's rebirth as a current fashion trend.

This year's New York Fashion show of the spring/summer collection put together a line of Romper wear with stylized cuts and colors that are bold yet speak of subtle sensuality. Back in the day the romper was considered anything but a fashion statement; this summer it proves that belief wrong. The Romper is either a body fitting or loose garment that comes in one piece; now you can mix and match your outfit by getting romper pants without the jump suit look. Select outlets feature these pants including mini stores across the globe for those with a knack for fashion mostly spotted carrying off this vintage apparel with ease.

The Romper look is a smart way of highlighting soft curves or hiding wide hipped women that are self-conscious in public, while showing off a pair of legs with minimum effort. Various cuts and designs to give the Romper a more modern look while still keeping its classic feature intact, is done by adding an array of buttons, bows, tassels, straps and detailed sequence to give it an aura of feminism and an air of upbeat creativity. The increasingly popular one piece outfit is an apt choice in spring and in the scorching summers it's ideally chic as well as elegant for occasion.

To finish off the look add a clutch bag with either a leather look or one with a shimmery finish to go hand in hand with your garb. Adorn yourself with slightly chunky jewelry to add a classy edge to your attire. Keeping everything at a minimum sets off a less dramatic front but will give off a strong and sexy vibe that is sure to kick start a "hot" summer. Ballerina flats or stilettos with a color to match depending on how formal or informal your get up is, will surely top things off for your Romper look.

Happy shopping.
