The Rise of a Brand

It was Keith Musto’s love for sailing that kick started the development of the Musto brand. He is a keen and successful sailor so when he began to develop wetsuits and sailing clothing, he had plenty of first hand experience and knowledge to know exactly what was required of his products. The company has grown tremendously and now also encompasses equestrian, shooting, casual and accessories ranges. One of the original beliefs at the core of the Musto brand that still holds true is that good quality clothing can help and perhaps improve performance in a chosen activity.

It was in 1987 that the Country range of clothing for shooting and equestrian enthusiasts was launched. These collections have expanded greatly and now offer a wide range of products including tweed, thermal wear, riding clothes, clay-shooting clothing, fleeces, waterproof jackets, shirts, gilets, accessories and footwear.

The Shooting range is designed with performance in mind. New technologies are applied to traditional designs to achieve functional, practical and comfortable products that do the job and look good at the same time. Men’s tweed is available in a variety of colors and styles with shooting jackets, sleeveless jackets, waistcoats, sports jackets, breeks, trousers and accessories such as caps all offered.

Technical tweed is used for many of these garments making them waterproof, breathable and windproof with a Teflon coating which helps to repel surface water. Gore-Tex and Gore- Seam technology is also a key feature seen in many of the tweed products. It is hardwearing, durably waterproof, highly breathable and windproof.

Another bonus is that these items, such as those in the Munro range, are machine washable. The Sporting Ladies collection now also offers a range of tweed products for women, which uses Technical Tweed and also a lighter weight version of the Technical tweed. Tweed clothing for women now includes a waterproof and breathable tweed jacket, country jacket, waistcoat, field coat, skirt, lightweight breeks and trousers.

This range mixes traditional tweed with a modern twist where darts and a fitted style keep the clothes flattering and feminine. For other keen shots that are not fans of tweed, there are many other styles and fabrics within the shooting range to choose from. The Whisper Jacket for example has polyester mock suede outer and features a Gore-Tex drop liner and Gore- Seam tape & DWR finish making it highly waterproof, breathable and windproof.

Also within the men’s shooting section is a range of Polartec fleeces which have a high warmth to weight ratio, are very breathable and feature a DWR water repellent finish. This year the clay shooting range has expanded further and now includes jackets, vests (for both men and women), over-trousers, lightweight jackets, gloves, caps and also some ‘championship’ items.
