The Ribbon

Lucy wore a red velvet ribbon around her neck everyday. No matter what the weather, snow or sunshine, she always wore the ribbon, even if it didn't match her outfit. As time passed, it began to annoy her best friend, Kyle. They have known each other since they were four, and back then it didn't really bother him, but now that they were in high school, it aggravated him.

"Why do you always wear the same ribbon around your neck, Lucy?" he would ask, but she never would tell him.

Still, in spite of his anger, Kyle really liked Lucy. He would invite her to watch his football games or to drive in his car. Eventually Spring came and he asked her to the dance. Lucy would always say yes when he asked her out. And she would always wear a different red dress to match her ribbon.

Not too long after, they started dating steadily, yet she still wouldn't tell him about her ribbon. "Maybe someday I'll tell you" she would always say, and Kyle would just shrug it off because she was so beautiful and fun to be around.

Time flew past and one day, Kyle proposed to Lucy and she accepted. They planned a big wedding, and Lucy hinted that she might tell him about her red velvet ribbon on their wedding day. But with all the wedding preparations and his new, beautiful bride, it had slipped Kyle's mind to ask her. When he finally did get around to asking her, she began to cry a little bit. "We are so happy together, does it really matter?" she stammered. Kyle decided she was right.

Kyle and Lucy went on to raise a family, one boy and two girls. Whenever the children would ask Kyle about the ribbon,he would shush them and for some strange reason,they would never dare to ask their mother. Then, for the first time since their wedding day, Kyle questioned Lucy about the red velvet ribbon.She just gave him a sad look and replied "Kyle, I love you. But since you have waited this long, you can wait a little bit longer."

More and more time passed and Kyle's curiosity grew bigger and bigger with each passing day. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore. That night,he waited until Lucy fell into a deep sleep, then silently slipped out of the bed and crept to her side of the bed, standing over her while she snored softly. Kyle then bent down, and,with shaky hands, began undoing the knot.

After he managed to un-do the knot, he just stood there anxiously. "I will finally find out the secret about this ribbon" he whispered proudly, and with that, he opened the red velvet ribbon.

As soon as he did, Lucy's head fell off the bed and rolled onto the floor.
