The Rapid Progress of Cement Industry

Not many people know that cement had a very humble growth. Until almost nineteenth century, a rough mixture of limestone and clay was being used a cement.

The advent of cement as we know today can be said to have occurred in around 1824, when a British mason obtained the patent for Portland cement that was made through the proportionate mixing, burning and the subsequent grinding of a combination of clay and limestone.

From then to now, the cement industry has grown at an amazing pace. The quality of cement that is produced today is far superior to the one that was used in earlier times. Moreover it is manufactured in various different gradients as per the intended use.

There are many factors that have contributed to the magnificent progress of the cement industry, including:

Urbanization: This is a common phenomenon all over the world. Village areas are diminishing and urban areas are expanding at a rapid pace. Urbanization requires the construction of apartments, schools, banks, offices, bridges and various other civic structures that are impossible without cement.

Concrete input: Cement is a main input for the manufacture for concrete, and is required in huge quantities to fuel the massive demand for concrete the world over. Concrete is a special construction material that is commonly used in all modern constructions.

High Population: The world population is growing at a phenomenal rate. Since housing is a basic requirement of man, it’s no wonder that the demand for cement is also growing at a proportionate level.

Although this is not an exhaustive list, yet these are some of the main reasons for the manifold increase in the development of cement industry in the past century.
