The Purple Ribbon - Chapter 2
I hope you all enjoy reading chapter 2. I would love to hear your comments for this chapter. Let me know what you think :) And thank you all for supporting me!
"BRRRIINNGGGG"
My alarm clock is almost similar to the sound of nails being run down a chalkboard. I pressed the snooze button on the alarm clock, and slowly crawled out of bed. I took a shower, brushed my hair and teeth, got dressed, and headed downstairs for breakfast. As I was walking downstairs, I could smell the fresh aroma of chocolate chip pancakes, and can see my mom pouring chocolate syrup onto them. I sat down next to Travis who already had chocolate syrup on his face.
"Macy. Would you be able to come home right after school to take care of your father? I am going to be working late hours tonight."
"Absolutely mom".
"Great! There are still leftovers in the fridge, and I made your dad some chicken noodle soup, so would you please heat it up once u get home, to give to your father?"
"Sure mom. Where is dad right now?"
"He is sleeping upstairs in his room. Okay I really have to run to work, I have a meeting this morning, and I do not want to be late. Have fun at school kids, and good luck on your math exam Macy".
"Have fun mom"
She grabbed her stainless steel coffee mug, and rushed out the door. My mother works for a really huge law firm. She works as a lawyer at the Kalmott Corporate Law offices. She keeps herself busy. I finished my plate, and cleared the table. I wiped the chocolate syrup off of Travis's face with a damp cloth. My brother Travis recently turned 13 years old, and he is going through this phase where getting into trouble is his new hobby. We grabbed our book bags, and headed out the door. I walked him to his bus stop and waited with him. After a few good laughs, and a high five, the big yellow bus slowly turned the corner. You could hear it squeak as it parked in front of us.
"Bye Travis! Have fun at school".
He continued walking into the bus acting as if I did not exist. I rolled my eyes and laughed. I waited for the bus to drive off. As the bus was slowly moving, I could see Travis sitting at the back of the bus. I presented a smile, and he waved before anyone could see him. I giggled and waved back. I walked to my bus stop and saw, Holly, Amelia, Jasmine, and Carla. I consider these four girls as my sisters. We grew up together, and we all live in the same neighborhood. We have never grown apart, and never will. I waved to them.
"Hey Macy".
"Hey girls".
As we got onto the bus, we greeted our bus driver Jeff, and then walked to the back where we always sit.
After a 12 minute ride, we reached Minsonah High school. We got off the bus, and walked to the front doors, where Steve Galak was standing. Every morning, lunch, and after school, Steve stands at the door and greets everyone. He does not get paid for this. He simply does it considering he enjoys making people feel happy. He wears corduroy pants that come up to his ankles, his graphic tees that have an abnormal symbol on them, glasses that were worn in the 80's, and yet he always seems to have great looking shoes.
"GOOD MORNING MINSONAH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS! I hope you all had a very healthy breakfast, and have a fantastic, dangerous free day."
"BBRRIIINNGG"
"See you all at lunch!"
The girls and I walk to our lockers, grabbed our textbooks, and headed to our classes.
As I was heading to Mr.Shernar's math class, I felt a light tap on the right side of my shoulder.
"Hey Macy."
I look back, and David was standing behind me.
"H-h-heyy David" I stuttered.
"Did you study for the math exam today?"
"Oh did I ever! I studied harder than a horse's saddle! I let out a hysterical laugh.
I wanted to punch myself upside the head! I continuously make a fool out of myself when I am around David. He giggled politely, however I could tell that he did not think it was a very funny joke.
We walked into our class, and headed to our seats, and noticed our test papers were already facing down on our desks.
"Good morning class! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I am sure you are all excited about the exam today?"
"Yes Mr.Shernar", the class said, while rolling their eyes.
"Great! Now this test is worth 20 percent of your mark, so I am not going to waste any time. Go ahead and get started.
David turned over and whispered, "Good luck".
"Good luck," I whispered back.
After an exhausting hour and 40 minutes, we all finished our exams.
"What did you all think of the exam class"?
The class let out a huge sigh.
"Okay sounds like you had fun", he said sarcastically.
There was five minutes until the bell was about to ring for second period. I was staring at the clock, while David was trying to get my attention.
"Macy? Macy?"
I shook my head and realized he had been calling my name.
"Sorry, I was not paying attention".
"It's okay. How did you think you did on the exam?"
I shrugged. "I think I did okay. What about yourself? I am sure you passed with flying colors, just like the rainbow. Except rainbows don't fly, however they do stay up in the air, so is that considered as flying?"
I was trying to stop myself before I could say something else ridiculous, but I couldn't. David realized I was babbling a lot. Thankfully, he interrupted and said, "I think I did okay as well. Hopefully I pass with flying rainbows." He giggled and winked at me. I smiled back. I felt like a mumbling freak.
"BBRIINGGG."
David and I walked out of class, and he offered to walk me to my locker. I was already doing my little happy dance inside my head. My heart was beating faster every time I took a step.
As we reached my locker, there was about 2 minutes and 7 seconds left until next period.
"Listen Macy, I have to run. Ms. Jankit hates it when I am late."
"Okay, try not to be late. Thanks for walking me to my locker David."
"Don't mention it."
He gave me a smile and hurried down the math hallway. I walked the other way, and headed to the science hallway. As I set one foot into my science class, the bell rang.
"BBRIIINGG."
"Great timing", I said to myself.
I sat down next to my friend Melanie, who always looks put together, and always wears a small bow she clips in her hair. She must have a ton of those bows, and each a different color that matches her outfits. I could easily see her as a famous fashion designer one day. I set my book bag on the floor, grabbed my science textbook and set it on the desk.
"Hello class. Today we will be working on this assignment I photocopied out for you. As you all know school will be coming to an end, however, before you cheer, and throw out all the work you've all done this year in the trash, you must all write your final exams. This booklet has everything you will need to know for your final science exam. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. I want this done and handed in tomorrow morning. You can all get started."
I skimmed through the booklet and noticed there were 23 pages. Melanie pushed her desk over beside me, we quickly got started, and before we knew it, we were already on page 14.
"Okay class you have about 10 minutes until lunch. Remember it is due tomorrow morning, which I will take in for marks."
We finished up the last question on page 14, and put our assignments back into our binders.
"BBIINNGG."
I got up and waved bye to Melanie. I walked to my locker, where I met up with my friends.
"Where should we eat today"? Asked Jasmine.
"I think we should eat at Lunch Munch across the street. They just opened up last weekend," I suggested.
"Sounds delicious." Said Carla.
"How would you know? They just opened up." Asked Holly.
"The name of the restaurant sounds delicious." Answered Carla.
We all giggled and headed out the front doors, where we met up with Steve the doorman once again. He already had his tuna sandwich in his hand, and green tea in the other.
"Have a fantastic lunch everyone. Try not to choke on anything though. We don't want that to happen.
We walked down the stairs, and crossed the lights.
"I saw you and David walking to your locker Macy," Carla said with a huge smile on her face.
"You did?" Asked Holly.
"What? When?" Asked Amelia.
Jasmine had a huge grin on her face, waiting for me to answer the questions.
"He offered to walk me to my locker, but I was so nervous, I don't even remember what happened".
"I think that is adorable." Said Jasmine.
"Very!" the other girls agreed.
We entered Lunch Munch, and noticed it was crowded. Fortunately we had time, so we waited in line. As we were waiting, I decided to call my dad, and check up on him.
"Hello?" He said in a weeping voice.
"Hey dad, I am calling to check up on you. Are you feeling any better?"
"Not quite, but I am going back to sleep. I will see you when you get home."
"Okay sounds good. Bye dad. I love you."
"Love you too."
"Is he feeling any better?" Asked Holly.
"No not as quite".
"Don't you worry Macy, things will be okay" assured Jasmine.
I nodded.
"Hello and welcome to Lunch Much. How may I help you?"
I turned around, and the man had a name tag that read, "Billy". His uniform included wearing a hair net, that didn't fit him quite right, and a yellow visor, along with a yellow shirt, and black tapered pants. Not the best uniform, but as long as their food tastes great, then I am fine with it. The girls and I ordered our lunch, and headed to find a table, where the waiter would bring our food. We sat down, next to the exit door.
"Macy!"
I turned to my left, and David was sitting there with his football friends, and waving at me.
"Hey David"!
I waved back while Carla was nudging me.
David put down his fork and excused himself from his table. He came walking to our table, he sat right next to me, and we started to talk. Jasmine was trying to make eye contact with me from across the table. I could tell she was far more excited then I was, however my heart was already skipping beats. Our waiter came around the corner with a tray of our food.
"Okay girls, I will let you enjoy your food, and I am going back to enjoy mine".
"See you later David," the girls said politely.
"Bye Macy," he said in the sweetest voice.
I sat there staring into his eyes. Holly kicked my knee from under the table.
"Oh b-bye David", I stuttered once again.
He walked to his table, sat down, and smiled at me.
"Macy! You are just too adorable," Amelia said giggling.
Obviously I needed get over my fear of talking to him.
We finished the last bit of our lunch. The waiter came and took our empty dirty plates and headed back to the kitchen. We headed out the exit door, and walked back to school.
"Hello Minsonah High School students! I hope you all had a fantastic lunch. Now carry on to your classes, you do not want to be late," yelled out Steve.
The last two periods dragged on slowly. Then finally 3:35 came around the corner. The girls and I took the bus home as usual. We got off the bus, waved goodbye to our bus driver Jeff, and headed home.
I took out my keys, opened the door to find Travis helping himself with dads chicken noodle soup. Fortunately mom always makes a lot. I poured him some soup into a bowl, poured a full cup of ginger ale, set them on a tray, and headed upstairs. I knocked lightly on the door.
"Come on in." He said in a soft voice.
"Hey dad, how are you feeling?"
"I'll be fine."
"Well this should help you feel better. Mom made you some chicken noodle soup."
"Thank you!"
"Did you see your doctor?"
"Yes, he offered to come here, which was nice of him."
He coughed, and took a sip out of the ginger ale. He gave me a few tests, and said the results will not be back for another week or so."
"Oh well hopefully things will be okay."
He assured me things will be fine.
"How was your final math exam?"
"I think I did okay."
"Oh I am sure you passed with flying colors Mace, Mace!"
I rolled my eyes.
"Listen dad, I will let you get some more sleep. Finish all your soup, and drink all your ginger ale."
"Thank you Macy!"
"Don't forget dad, you will always be wrapped around my little finger."
He smiled at me. I closed the door softly, and headed downstairs.
My alarm clock is almost similar to the sound of nails being run down a chalkboard. I pressed the snooze button on the alarm clock, and slowly crawled out of bed. I took a shower, brushed my hair and teeth, got dressed, and headed downstairs for breakfast.
