The Price Tag of Marriage

The joys of a wedding are priceless. It is a time of celebration for the beginning of a life long union. Families and friends often come from far away to see two people united in matrimony. It is no wonder that brides and grooms spend months and even years planning for that one special day. And why is it that weddings are so expensive?

Well in order to have the perfect day there are a lot of costs involved. First of all there are the invitations. Invitations are not your typical hallmark card. They are high grade, elegantly decorated cards with a professional engagement picture inside. Sometimes there is lace and multiple layers to the card. It is really the first impression guest will get of your wedding. The invitation will set the mode for what type of wedding you are going to have.

The wedding gown in itself is a masterpiece. It will likely be the most beautiful dress a bride will buy in her entire life. Interesting that it will probably only be worn once and that’s it! Most brides who buy their gowns store them in a safe place as a special reminder of their wedding day. Wedding gowns are accompanied by a veil of course, but don’t forget about jewelry. That can be the most fun part for a bride.

Decorations set the motif for the wedding. Most people will rent their decorations and buy speciality decorations to make their wedding unique. There are favors, chocolate fountains, candle holders, center pieces, ice sculptures, pictures of the bride and groom, table cloths, and all sorts of fancy decorations. And flowers, there are always flowers. Flowers can be in their own category for costs, but let it suffice to say that flowers can make all the difference in your decor.

What is the point of having a party of a lifetime if there are no pictures to remember it by. Photographers are of the utmost importance for a wedding. They are one of the few things you will have for the rest of your life to remember your wedding day by. If you get the right photographer you will never regret it. Wedding photography is an art, and you don’t want a bad artist depicting your wedding if that is the main thing you will have to remember your day by. The right photographer can be costly, but the wrong photographer can be catastrophic. I have a brother who recently got married. He and his wife hired a close relative to take their wedding photos because she had taken an photography class and did it as a hobby. Everything seemed to go great at the wedding, but when they got their pictures back they were all out of focus. The relative had left the lens on manual focus, but thought it was on auto focus. To say the least it was a big disappointment.

The one last thing I want to mention about the cost of weddings are wedding videos. Wedding videos capture more of the emotions of the wedding and better portray parts of the day. Again it isn’t wise to have just a friend or relative use their camcorder to record your wedding. A professional has high end equipment that will capture the video and sound in the best possible way. Again, what is the point of having the perfect wedding day if you can’t have something to remind you of it down the road.

Weddings can be very expensive. But the cost does not compare to the spectacular events of the day. One can not put a price tag on celebration of union in marriage.
