The Positive Effect on the Psychological Well Being and Health of a Person at Christmas Time
Apart from the tradition that we practice since our childhood, what is your Christmas motivation? Do you give because it makes you feel better? Does Christmas help you to forget that you are stressed?
Christmas is a time to celebrate for many reasons. Most people Celebrate for religious reasons as well as the gesture of giving and spending time with family, reflecting on the year past and hoping for good times in the years to come.
Above that, there are some psychological ramifications to giving of ones self, whether it be time or money or both, during the holidays especially. The psychological ramifications are actually positive though. It is said that the people who give without expectations of a return are some of the most healthiest people alive.
There are quite a bit of benefits to being a gift giver, especially at Christmas time and some of those are the facts that it builds good relationships. When you give a gift to someone who does not expect the gift, not only does this show a reinforcement of appreciation on both sides but it also shows people how to look for the good in unexpected places. Being able to share Christmas with friends and family and sitting down at a get together, sharing feelings about the past year and hopeful things to come and being able to express your feelings to the people that you love also give a close bond on both sides as well. They will love to see the softer side of you and you will feel very good about letting them know just how important each and every one of them is to you. This also creates memories that will last a lifetime.
As a child, I always knew that everyone would be home for Christmas. I always knew there would be the time to make cookies and leave them out for Santa the night before, and I always knew that there would be unexpected gifts under the tree come Christmas morning. These types of traditions are what builds positive reinforcement in our children as well as it making them feel safe, secure and it makes them feel as though they belong to something very important. So building this type of tradition of get together is essential for everyone involved.
Being able to give of yourself, your time and financially is a way to strengthen any bond you may already have and create new ones as well. Giving of yourself to your community and the people who have no one else to give them anything, is another way that further strengthens your spirit. Taking time out of your stresses and problems, taking the focus off of yourself and putting it forward on to someone else for a specified amount of time allows us to take a break from our issues and then when we return, we can face them head on with more clarity and a calmer resolve.
We give because we love. The gift of giving is the bond that holds people together and is what makes us much happier and healthier people, both mind and spirit.
