The Plea
Poem on horrors of abuse....
Crouched helplessly in the corner
Hiding in the refuge of the shadows
Eyes widely dilated screaming in terror
His feeble body weak and frail as a fallen autumn leaf
Aching from those countless nights of violent rages
His scrawny figure left black and blue
Devastating thoughts and images of the horrors that must end
Clutching his blanket he seeks to find consolation
Raising the blanket to his face he grasps sweet memories
Of the Christmas morning when this tiny comfort became his
Hearing the door unbolt he lowers his blanket
He covers his eyes and says through shrill sobs,
"Please, no more! Don’t hurt me again!"
