The Pill causes early abortion!
Yes, the pill does not only stop the "production" of ovules (suppressing ovulation) but also hinders the implantation of the newly formed embryo. It is an early abortion!
The pill seems to be one of the safest contraception methods –safest in the sense of preventing a pregnancy-and a practical method as it does not require anything else but a good enough memory (to remind you to take it every day).
For women concerned with the way the pill works, the fact that it is proven to be an abortifacient method is very important as a baby is a baby…no matter how young, even a few seconds young. That is why, it is important to know if what you are taking conforms to your standards from this point of view.
Let’s see in more detail the way the pill works. There are five known ways but I will only mention the main two: suppressing ovulation and inhibiting implantation.
Suppressing Ovulation
First, let’s have a brief look at the ovulation process: a gland situated at the base of our brain (the pituitary gland) produces hormones and these are responsible for the ovaries’ stimulation to produce a mature egg and to release it.
The pill contains artificial hormones that inhibit the natural hormones responsible for producing ovulation.
The main role of the pill is to interrupt the hormones’ way to the ovary; as a result, ovules can’t rich maturity and are not released from the ovary. Because the pill disrupts this chain, and a mature (to be fertilized) egg practically does not exist, evidently, the female is chemically sterile and conception cannot occur.
However, this is the ideal theoretical situation because in practice, the artificial hormones of the pill do not always interrupt the ovulation, so it haps in 2%-10% of the cycles of women who take the pill. To prevent the pregnancy even if ovulation might take place, the pill has a "B plan", which is inhibiting implantation of the embryo.
Inhibiting implantation
Once an egg is fertilized, the next natural step is its nidation or uterus implantation. The inner side of the uterus is named endometrium and it works like a blanket for the new embryo (newly fertilized egg) that finds the necessary nourishment "under" that blanket. However, the pill’s "plan B" is to thinner and shrivel this blanket so that it would not be strong enough to support the embryo. This is why this method implies an early abortion.
You might have not heard about this before as the pill manufacturers focus on the pill’s side effects and efficiency in preventing pregnancies and manifest less concern on the way the drug reaches its goal.
The early abortion potential of the pill is recognized by pro-abortion organizations and their attorneys as well. Ruth Colker, a Tulane Law School professor, (February 1992), wrote in opposition to a Louisiana law banning abortion: "Because nearly all birth control devices, except the diaphragm and condom, operate between the time of conception...and implantation.., the statute would appear to ban most contraceptives."
Also back in 1989, attorney Frank Sussman argued before the U. S. Supreme Court that ". . . intrauterine devices and low dose birth control pills . . . act as abortifacients."
However, respecting life is a human principle and if we care for our babies when we see them, we should also pay attention to what contraception method we choose. We don’t want to harm our babies after they are born, why would we want to harm them before being born?
Pill’s efficiency
Although it is considered to be one of the safest methods having an efficiency of over 99%, practice shows that between 1.9% and 18.1% of women will experience a "surprise pregnancy" in the first year of using the pill. This might happen because of pills interactions with other medicines although another common reason is that of not having properly followed the directions - this occurs especially in the case of younger women (15-24 years old).
To respect life in all its stages of development is something all humans must do, that is why pill’s real abortifacient properties must be seriously considered.
